Just took a couple of pictures off my front deck of the rime ice in the rising sun.

..

What a gorgeous view (she said from a warmer distance 1,000 miles south!).

And I learned a new term this morning - rime ice.

Stay safe and warm.

PS: What's the little dog house for? When poor, little Molly is bad??? :o

Soos I can picture just how beautiful it is up there. The word being "UP". Love to look at it but don't want to deal with it. Keep it all in your neck of the woods! Born and raised in NY I am more than use to it and use to love to play in it, but no more. Nope I'll take the sunshine and warmer temps now days.

Soos, I had to look up the difference between rime ice and hoar frost. Not too much difference other than hoar frost looks fuzzy and rime ice is a white smooth ice coating from fog. We have had the rime ice here around the lake in the mornings lately because some of the marinas keep the water around their docks open all winter and when it gets really cold at night, steam and fog form over the water and cause rime ice on the nearby trees. It is really beautiful. I wished I had my camera with me a couple of mornings this week to get some cool pics of it!
I am on the top floor of my apartment building and I also get the cracking and booming from the roof above me when the temps drop really low at night. Not sure if it is from ice on the roof or the roof itself. I also can occasionally hear the booming from the ice on the lake expanding at night. That can be very loud!
Your back yard is very beautiful! Are you going to keep your place up there when you start traveling? Don't you have another place in Florida?

I always say you should learn something new everyday. I had never heard of rime ice or hoar frost before. Being a native Californian, those things don't happen. I want to thank you for the explanation of both. My learning for the day.

Okay, I now know that rime ice is what I saw over all Indianapolis this morning! It was beautiful along with the morning fog. But when I drove past the RV's parked at the Fairgrounds (dog show people) I was VERY glad to have spent the night warm at the Red Roof!
