Spring travel plans -- KAPUT!

Postby Getupngo » Thu Feb 04, 2010 1:20 am

I emailed the ranger on San Juan Island tonight and told him I cannot come in March because my poor Bandit dog is too fragile to travel. Sigh. He has back pain and his legs are splaying again. I can't see him being able to handle the stairs in and out of the MH, and it would be unconscionable to leave him in the rig for four hours at a stretch, come back, pee him, and then leave for another four (it's a 32-hour-a-week commitment). I'm just going to take care of my buddy until I can't do so any longer.

Bandit adores my roommate and she's crazy about him, so if he's holding his own I may be able to just take Kiwi with me on a few short outings in the MH this spring. I have a volunteer commitment this summer at a nearby state park, but, to be honest, I don't expect Bandit will still be with us by then. If he is, I can cancel that one as well and plant a vegetable garden here at the house.

So sorry to hear this, Janice. I can sure understand your wanting to hold Bandit as close as possible for as long as possible. As with any family member, the older years can be heartbreaking and demanding. But would we trade them for not having to go through the losses? Certainly not.

Hugs to Bandit from me and licks to him from Molly

It is great to hear you are putting your dear fur buddy first. I am sure Bandit appreciates all the closeness you give him.

Sorry to hear about Bandit, Janice. How compassionate of you to put his needs first. May his remaining days be comfortable and surrounded by the love of those who care.

I think its wonderful that you're putting Bandit first. Its so hard that they have such shorter life spans than we do. I know how you're feeling - my two guys are getting up there in years, too.

Well, we do what we have to and Bandit is your first priority. I'm sure I would do the same, as would most of the girls here. I've been wondering about the little guy and how he was doing. Since we hadn't heard anything figured he might have been getting worse. Hugs from me, Chewy and Sam. Please keep us posted on how he's doing. We're here for you.

I know your feelings.. I have to leave my ole doberman home now or board her... I do have a dog ramp which really helps if I have to take her to the vets.. but handling two dogs is to much for me now... I do take me little one with me on my outings.. I always have such a guilty feeling when I have to leave my Senta.. but she is in the best of care when i am gone... Actaully I think she is happier at the kennels...
