Yeah I would be lost. But Shade does come up to me while I'm sitting at the bench and stands up and puts her front paws on my shoulder. When I turn she crawls up the front of me and snuggies down. Or she will put her head under my arm and try to pick it up to make room for her. I think we both need and enjoy those hugs and loves. ;)

Great thread. Beth told me I had to read this. I need help with Bogie and his refusal to come out of the truck when we stop. I've never had a dog I was frightened of, always said I never would, but when he gets into this "rabid" mode, I am. His eyes change, get a glazed distant look, its as if he doesn't know me.

I've also been wondering how Chewy and Sharon were doing in school. Who will win Sharon or Chewy!!

Sparkle has Bogie been refusing to jump from the truck for some time or is this a fairly new situation? Maybe it hurts his legs or something to jump. Could you get him a ramp of some kind or a wide board. I've seen that look in a dogs eyes before and I think you are wise to be wary.

Sharon, we subscribe to "The Dog Whisperer's" newsletter online....and have picked up quite a few tips for Spinner....He has an issue with barking when someone knocks on the door of the camper....(camp hosting that happens alot... ) so the tip there, besides the "chit" sound, was to have something to distract him,too....so we're using a squeeky that he tore out of a toy....works like a charm!!!!! when he's calm/submissive, we then let him greet whom ever is at the door....he's doing pretty good and is catching on....

Today Spinner was in hot water with his Mommy....got into my baby yarn I'm using for a blanket for a new nephew while we were away..... showed him the error of his ways with a stern "NO" and no "lovin' pats" for awhile.....the head was down and the ears flat...he knew he was bad....crawled up on his bed....but all is forgiven...after an hour and a half of rolling all that yarn into a ball again....I sometimes think he thinks he part cat....  Love my Spinner Spot..... ;)

Just found this post. Hope Chewy continues to do well. How lucky you are to have found that trainer? Hoping for an update soon.

It all began when we drove through Ensenada in the pre Xmas rush. We were so traumatised it affected our dogs. Peaches was a quivering ball of fur and Bogie said, if there's something out there that scares YOU that much, I'm not getting out!
Even when there is no stress, sometimes we just go 15 miles and he still refuses to get out and gets that distant look in his eyes. It wouldn't bother me so much in the States, but we know we are going to go through many military checkpoints, and going north they DO search the truck and trailer. I kept him in the trailer last time when I knew a checkpoint was coming up and he gets out of the trailer no prob. I put him in the truck when they were through searching and then they went into the trailer. That will work until I run into two checkpoints in the same day. I'd hate to have them shoot him!

Here ya go, Janet. I've posted so many pictures of her figured every one had seen her! She's a long hair chihuahua.

She had her 2nd lesson today over at the trainers. Working on heeling, sitting at a distance and down. So now not only do we have 2-2 mile walks a day, we're working on this other stuff 2 or 3 times a day. We got back from the trainers and she's been in her bed sleeping ever since. Wore her out, which is the point of the walks. She's doing really well and we both got an A from Jennifer! Yay! Only took her 4 0r 5 times to figure out what sit meant. She's been sitting when I stop, but I wasn't using the word sit, so now she's putting the 2 together. She's pretty smart for a chi....I've been gone so much we haven't had the time to work that she needed, but I'm home most of March, so we'll be working pretty hard. End of March I have a bike ride to Death Valley and am thinking seriously about boarding her with Jennifer for some extra work. It would be a good experience for her. I also need to find the time to spend at least an hour every day on the bike as I would like to ride it to DV....so much to do, so little time!

Sparkle, so sorry about Bogie. He sounds stressed, but not sure what to tell you. Have you tried treats? Would he come out for a bite of chicken or something so that it would become a positive thing instead of a negative? Might be worth a try.
