I love it.

On another note - I am careful to try not to judge anyone on their clothes, how they clean their house, etc. I hope I like people based on who they ARE.

That said - I had a neighbor who was stuck in the 60's. He had developed some mechanical, scientific dowabi (you obviously know it meant nothing to me :) ) and actually lived and ate and slept in his warehouse for 25 years getting his business off the ground. And, wow, when it went off the ground, he was a multi-millionare. Nice man. Wearing tie-dye tshirts and bell bottom blue jeans in the 90's. Married a psychologist and she loved him for just who he was. They built a beautiful a-frame house on the property 2 doors down from me and my ex. Great neighbors. Oh, he also had an OLD falling apart car that had come with him from the 60's that he hated the thought of getting rid of. But one day, he drove past a Ferrari show room and stopped in. He liked the car on the floor. The salesman laughed at him. He asked the list price and the salesman told him he couldn't afford it. He asked again, was told it and walked out. He came back an hour later and asked for the manager or owner of the dealership. Got him - said here's sticker price in cash for that car on the floor. The only deal is - I won't take it if that salesman over there gets any commission and I need that in writing.

Judge everyone on their merits - life is short.

I read an article , around 2000 when the economy was good, about all the millionaires there were. The article was saying that your next door neighbor could be a multi millionaire and you would not know unless they told you. The families weren't moving on to more upscale neighborhoods, buying new and more expensive cars, etc., they were staying put.

It's true, you can't judge by appearances and I do my best not to. Linda

Good book covering research on that very subject, "The Millionaire Next Door". Author has just recently released another book. Not sure of exact title but something like "Stop Pretending to be Rich and Live like a Millionaire". Haven't read it yet but plan to get a copy.

When my son was about 14 he visited a friends house and came home raving about how rich they were. They had a big house, they had all these cars. they had a boat. I asked him to think about whether they were really rich or did they just have a lot of debt? Looking back I hope it wasn't just sour grapes.
