RV Magazines...

Postby BarbaraRose » Wed Feb 03, 2010 12:56 pm

I am signing up on-line for a ticket to the local RV Show in two weeks. With my paid ticket, I get a free 6 month subscription to one of 3 magazines; Motorhome, Trailer lIfe, and Camping Life. Which one would you guys recommend? I have read copies of Trailer Life before and it seems to be mostly articles on fixing things. At this point, I would rather read about going places. What are the other two magazines like?

Sorry Barb, I get TL, and have no experience with the other two. Can't offer an opinion. :?

Barbie, I found the trailer Life and Motorhome magazines to be very similar to one another. They both review different rigs and deal with problems that owners have had with various rigs. They each do an article on a place, but that's about it. The camping life magazine is geared more towards campers, not rvers. I don't think they really cover traveling the way you are interested in. In my opinion they are just okay magazines. Linda

I have to agree, although I favor Motorhome a tad more, probably because I have a motorhome. ;) They do tend to lean towards the bigger rigs and fancier campground/resorts, though. I'm going to let my TL subscription lapse. Nothing much new in it after years of getting it. I also get Highways, which I think is ok. I believe that came with my membership to Good Sams.
I think someone (preferably a woman), ought to publish a mag. all about RV traveling and what to see, routes off the beaten path etc. I'd buy it in a heartbeat! Anyone know of one let me know.

I did come across this one. Have no idea if it's any good or not?

Maybe one of us should start one! If I had a way of getting out there now, I would start it myself! Lots of pics, etc. That would be fun! Hmmm.....

PS> I decided to go with the Camping Life magazine since they seem to have more articles (according to their website) on places to go, things to do, etc.

When we bought our first TT the couple that we purchased it from sent us a 1yr. subscription to Trailer Life and we have renewed it ever since then. I also get the Highways magazine with the Good Sam membership. I have picked up Camping Life a few times at the book store, but didn't really see anything special there either. The one that Echo put a link to is included with the organization, but the funny thing is on their website you acknowledge and agree to destroy the magazine after you've read it. Don't know what the big secret is other than to prevent others from reading it without paying the membership dues. That said, I'm sure it's probably a great organization and yet another place for women RVers to meet and do stuff together.

I joined RV Women last year - but never made it to TX to join up with the Ramblin' Roses. I have a few copies floating around the 'condo' - but never noticed that it said to destroy it! I'll have to look! That's just plain weird. But - so it goes.........'forcing' membership is not the way to go, IMHO. LOL

I use to subscribe to an email newsletter from this gal that fulltimed and in the email was a link to her website and she had videos of her cooking in her TT, along with a short blip on different destinations she'd gone to. I should google and see if I can find her again. She was very personable as she encouraged emailing her with questions, tips or just to let her know she was doing ok. And she always emailed back.
EDIT: Googled: RV cooking shows and found her. http://www.rvcookingshow.com/rv-videos/ ... els-videos Wow, she must be doing ok cause her website certainly has gotten spiffier. You can also google rv cooking show on youtube and watch her cooking in her Rv. OR you can join in on Facebook.

Kerry, I just checked to see if I could find it again. It is on the printable application form, but my mistake is that it pertains to the directory, not the magazine. Just wanted to clear that up. It says you understand you are not to discard the directory, but destroy it. I can understand that, it probably has personal information on the women members.
