I'm all for taking herbal supplements but PLEASE read as much as you can about any product before you take it. One good way is to google is ______safe? When I looked up black cohosh as there are lots of controversy about its safety this is what Dr. Weil says.
http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/id/QAA36018 I would read as many articles as possible from several sources to form an opinion.
Also just because it is a herb does not mean it is entirely safe for you or with out side effects. I looked at the Royal Maca page and found this information that is very important if you have high blood pressure. It also will effect glucose so you need to be aware of that if you have a sugar problem. Tell you regular doctor about any herb or vitamin you take or plan to take!!!
"It’s best to start with either ½ capsule daily (you can twist the capsule apart and tap out half) or one capsule daily depending on your sensitivity and your weight. If you do have high blood pressure, it would be important for you to work with your physician on developing a protocol that is right for you."If you do start any HRT be sure to taper off the medication very gradually. I found out the hard way when I briefly tried HRT many years ago that unless you wean yourself off gradually it could (and it doesn't always happen) severely damage your pituitary’s ability to regulate your body’s 'thermometer'.The doctor did not tell me to stop it gradually, in fact he advised me to just stop taking it!
Many doctors recommend HRT and bone density drugs so for those of you taking or considering taking the bone density drugs for osteopenia or osteoporosis this is a shocking report that was on the radio you will certainly find of interest.
