THERE the pictures are! They came out BEAUTIFUL! What a perfect day for the snow-golf tournament! The people look very much like Saranac Lakers during winter carnival-----except for your poor co-worker who was so obviously underdressed for the occassion! I can't believe she had just ear protectors on and no hat! And that coat looks as if it belonged on 5th Avenue, NY City streets, not on a winter golf course! I LOVE events like these! I am really going to try to see if Saranac Lake would be interested in adding such an even to its winter carnival agenda, as we have tons of golfers up here. I am wondering which lake or flat field area would be the best for setting it up. Perhaps even the golf course would be willing to stage one there! Did the organizers of that event stick trees around the course, or were they there to begin with? Or was that area on ice somewhere?

Thanks so much for posting your pics. That drive out to the ice village looks hairy, to say the least! I suspect our ice villages up here experienced the same road-destruction last weekend when it rained and rained and thawed and thawed. Your apartment building is very pretty, and, of course, the view from it is spectacular!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

oh my goodness, I'm cold now just looking at the pics :o
back when I lived in Colorado, they do golf in the snow and use colored golf balls,
but I suppose the snow had to be a meer couple inches or the golf balls would just
sink. We did ice racing though with our jeep on the frozen lake in Georgetown.
It was always fun, cold but fun. The authorities would drill a hole in the ice to
see how thick it was before anyone could drive out on it. It was usually 24" thick.
There is one jeep at the bottom of the lake that I know of, cause he went too far
where the ice was thinner. I think I heard of a place in Michigan that does the
ice racing with their 4 wheel drive trucks and jeeps. (or maybe it was Minnesota)

It's very pretty to look at, but not somewhere you'd ever find this ol' body! I agree, nice apartment building.

Glad you'll liked the pics! I didn't actually play golf but took a practice shot. We just stayed by the tent and handed out coupons for haircuts and chatted with people. It is all out on the ice (altho right next to shore) and the trees are leftover or used Christmas trees that they just stuck in holes in the ice around each "green" to mark the holes. There were over 500 people I heard that played. I dressed in lots of layers so I was perfectly comfortable the whole time. My co-worker just had jeans on which can get very cold in that kind of weather. She is from Chicago so she should know better! I always hibernate all winter, but my motto this year is "if you can't fight 'em, join 'em", and it wasn't so bad! (Stilll dreaming of moving way south tho!)

What fun! I've never heard of or seen such! My father had an ice-fishing hut on Goose Pond in NH when I was a kid....but all I remember anyone doing was fishing.

It looks like a fun time. When it's that cold and the cold lasts that long, you need to join in the fun, otherwise it will be a loooooong winter. :D I was in an ice fishing hut in northern Ontario and it was surprisingly warm. Didn't catch anything, but we had a lot of fun anyway. Thanks again for sharing your day. Linda
