I bought a bunch of cutting boards (the rigid plastic ones) from Wally World and one of them fit my sink absolutely perfectly, inside the little ridge and all. I took the others back.

Good job Christine! That's one thing that is awful about RV's. Most of them have almost 0% counter space.

But I'm with Cedar! My Mom used her stove in the various campers they had and anytime I borrowed their TT I sure used the stove. Lived in their TT for 12wks while going to trucking school and as broke as I was I would have starved to death if I hadn't had the stove. While camping I tend to make meals just like I would at home. Wish the blasted RV ovens were bigger tho!!!

Could do like the blogger that does "Travels with Gertie". He took out the smaller stove/oven and put in a bigger one. Doesn't make for a flat counter but the extra room in the oven more than makes up for it. Says he uses the oven a lot.

Great idea - you did a good job. My rig came with a stove cover and it sure adds to the counter space.

Thought about this today while I was walking on the beach ... wonder if I could put a hinge on it and then screw hooks into wall behind stove to get it out of way when cooking. Maybe put formica or something ontha side also to make easier clean up? What do you all think? And i will try the cutting board thing once I get home and can take them back more easily.

I must be the rare bird that enjoys cooking in my camper,... even bake peach biscuits for b'fast in the oven! I really enjoy my camper and planning nice meals when I'm camping is part of it for me.

I agree 100%! Several years back we used to camp with a couple who had a camper but refused to use anything in it! I was constantly getting the snide remarks like "you have your air conditioner on?" "you use your toilet?" "you used your oven?" "you have your water heater turned on?" These people bought a rig and planned to sell it in mint condition or nothing has ever been used. They still did their dishes outside in a dish pan heating water on the campfire. Which was fine...whatever trips your trigger. However, the remarks always irked me but they were friends of a couple we enjoyed camping with and we went as a group. The clincher came one rainy morning when I said that I was going to make our breakfast in the the TT and I got the "why do you want to go camping if you cook inside?" That did it! I blew up and said "I bought this TT...it has an air conditioner, a toilet, an oven, a kitchen sink AND I paid for all of it and I am going to use the damn thing if you like it or not" Needless to say...we haven't camped with them since. I enjoy cooking (most of the time) and we often camp with large groups...going inside to prepare something is often my way of escaping the masses for awhile.

how creative. what a great job. I think putting it down on the floor when you need to access the stove as maybe a better option then putting holes in the wall and latching it, only because I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to putting holes in my walls Looks great!

Kelpie, I don't think you would need to do that, just tip it up and lean it against the back
wall when your using the stove, you could put those little mosaic tiles on the bottom
side so the grease wouldn't splatter the wood.

Kelpie, I would not put holes in the walls. Use the 3M adhesive hooks, the ones that don't leave holes or marks on the walls. They come in different weights that they hold. They would be perfect to hold the cover in place, just put the loops on the side pieces so they would not be in the way when using the board.

I agree 200%! I bought my rv for, well, everything in it. I have a friend who keeps telling me I'm not really camping. Whatever. After three days in a tent in pouring rain, mud, lightning, and a little bit o' crazy, I looked over at the people in their rvs, sitting at their tables, eating food, lights on, and not slogging through the lightning and mud to squat over a hole and pee. Camping isn't about making yourself as miserable as possible. It's about enjoying the world around you, wherever you may be. (And using that awesome oven to make banana nut muffins or whatever floats your boat.)

OMG! This just cracked me up to no end!!! From the sound of those people all they were using their camper as a glorified tent with wheels. Why buy something like that and lay out that kind of money if your not gonna use the amenities it provides???

I didnt want to start another thread for another mod... this is the corner shelf I had put in the other day.. it will be very handy for my little clock and glasses.. I love this open space now w/0 the top bunk in..




On the subject of not using anything inside your trailer.. I do use my stove top when nasty weather doenst permit me to cook outside... I always take my little grill and colman stove. I cant imagine not using anything a/c stove, toilet.. thats silly!!

To explain my limited cooking I use the microwave and I purchased a small Cooking Inverter sort of thing that works off magnetic/electric power....so it could also be used outside on a table. I am not a fan of gas/open flames in a small area.....it just makes me nervous...... So all that I am missing right now is a small toaster oven.....Still thinking about that one and where I would store it and how often/or not I would even use it.
