Savannah, Ft Pulaski and Tybee Island with the Sultan

Postby BirdbyBird » Wed Jan 27, 2010 7:12 pm

I have been trying for three days to post this but the RV site knocks me out because this connection is soooo slow…..but here we try again.

Yep, Doc drove Lori and I on the Savannah, Ft Pulaski, Tybee Island Tour.

Since I had previously done the walk around the Squares and a Tour in a carriage with the DD several years ago....the Savannah part was short and sweet.

This is the picture of the "boat" Lori and I thought we could stand to float around on for a month or so..
Image

I always like the cobble stones down by the waterfront and think of all that they have had pass over them.

Image

The warehouses down by the waterfront.

Image

I enjoyed the Ft and the architecture of the surroundings......Lori already showed you pictures of the "piper". The sounds coming across the parade grounds were very ethereal....

Image

The entrance to one of the underground storage bunkers...

Image

Image

The entrance to the fort.

Image

Ms Lori....

Image

Image

I love the colors on the bricks....

Image

Places for soldiers...
Image

Places for the prisoners.....

Image
Image

Who was that mysterious man?
Image

Ernie (Doc) pointed out that they even had houseplants....

Image

The piper, Lori and Doc.....

Looking out one of the canon port holes.....
Image

This picture demonstrates why the fort became sort of useless when it was discovered that it could not survive the new artillary.

Image

But it was suppose to protect the waterways into Savannah..

After the Ft tour, Doc made sure that I could find the best restaurant on Tybee Island, The Crab Shack, if I should ever get back on my own......
Image

Run Liz run. You might not be so lucky this time.....
Image

The story of alligators.....
Image

Image

Image

Know any of these people...

Image

Doc with Captain Jack....

Doc pointed out the tops of the privacy fence...pretty unique...

Image

And I like their outdoor lamp treatment....

Image

And then we headed to the beach....can you read the height markers regarding the surges....

Image

And these beach pictures are for Sarah so that she can hear the surf....it was very SURFFY....

Do people actually take off their shoes to eat? I'm guessing that would be against Health Dept. rules. Thanks for the pics, Tina, glad you had fun with Lori and Doc.

What a hoot. We stopped in Savannah while driving to NC for Christmas. Love that town. Missed Tybee Island, so thanks for the tour. How can you go wrong with a Sultan in the lead  carold

I read a blog by a single RVing lady named Gypsy. She is currently workcamping there at Fort Pulaski in the gift shop. Some of you might find her blog interesting. http://gypsy97.blogspot.com/

So I figured that it takes two shots of your petite butt to make one of mine  besides I did get you with the bagpiper.......Thank you again for inviting me and for not declining when you realized that I would actually come find you  When I go places with other people...I generally see things that I would not have seen had I gone by myself....not to mention your "magic" card that got us in to see the fort for free! :D And quiet BJ....Spinner and Herschel, et al....were not told of all the adventures that we had.....they stayed home and protected the rigs.......

Thank you for another wonderful tour.
I appreciate the beach with surf even if I didn't get to hear it. I'm so jealous.
Weather looking nasty for the weekend; be careful when you leave (or just stay put a little longer).

And another great tour that I missed! Sigh. One of these days! I especially want to go to that crab shack....unfortunately the Sultan and Lori are only there in the winter and I'm only out and on tour in the summer. Sigh.
