My Stuff

Ok, its been two years in February that I've been fulltime. Today I went to my daughters and started going through some of the stuff I had packed up - stuff I thought I needed and couldn't get rid of. Surprise! Filled the backseat of my car with stuff for the Goodwill which emptied out about six boxes of stuff. I figure if I ever move back into my little house I can get by with the stuff I have in my RV. I had kept like ten muffin tins - I NEVER made muffins when I lived in the house so why did I have so many to begin with and why or why did I keep them. I am keeping most of the furniture tho just in case and the storage at my daughter's if free. That is of course, except for the bed, mattress that my GD is using and the sofa and table that my D is using. I would like to find George Carlin's recording of "Stuff". It was so funny. Anyone else been through this purging?

Yuppers, you can find it on a google search "george carlin stuff" and the You Tube one actually is the better of the 3 listed. Hard to hear and I couldn't get the volume to go any higher. Toooooooooo funny. He's not for everyone, but I think he's a hoot.
I feel bad for when my kids have to go through all my "stuff" Oh noooooooooooo. One of these daaaaaaays I'll get rid of my "stuff"

Except for the stuff that Kelly and I can fit in our 5x10 trailer we have gotten rid of everything. And we still have to much "stuff".

But yeah we both went thru the purge thing. When I did mine? OMG what a relief and lightening of self I felt. Own no furniture except camp furniture. This summer back at the lodge we will be getting rid of as much extra 'stuff' as we possibly can. We both have way to many clothes. We left a lot of them in the park model at the lodge and still brought to many with us. Kelly has her monster suitcase filled and I brought a duffel bag full. We haven't even wore a 1/4 of them. So we will be getting rid of a whole bunch of clothing. And there are other areas we can pare down more that's for sure. Furniture? Figured we didn't need any of it. So gave some to the kids, donated some and threw out some. Furniture, if we for some reason ever need it again we can get at thrift stores for cheap. Curtains we can make out of sheets or buy them cheap at a thrift store. So nope we didn't keep any of that kind of household 'stuff'. Of household stuff I kept kitchen 'stuff' as you always need that.

I was danged if we were gonna store 'stuff' anywhere. Tho it was nice to find my jackets and boots in David's attic.

Vicki, thanks for the youtube of George Carlin. Yeah, he uses the F word way too much but I just tune it out. Hey, I worked with cops for 15 years - I've heard the word before. He always appealed to my weird sense of humor - took everyday things and made you really look at them.

George Carlin, despite his, shall we say, 'offcolor' words, has always been one of my most favorite comedians----I miss him. I've discovered that after so many F words, I don't hear them any more! My most favorite part of Woodstock One is still the "Gimmee an F" bit! Back then the F word was akin to the most egregious taboo known to man! How totally WONDERFUL it was to be able to shout it out in a loud cheer! Since then, that word has lost a lot of its clout! Have to go to that Carlin website and listen with my morning coffee now----thanks!

You are totally correct Soos...the F bomb has lost it's clout! I hear it so much at work that I have almost become immune to it! I realized that one day at work when I overheard an inmate talking to another inmate and say "F--- the F-ing F-er" I had started diagraming the sentence in my mind..."you" as the understood subject...F--- as the verb...etc. I wasn't shocked at him using the word...but just how many times he was able to use it in one short sentence!

Pat..and isn't it funny how Politically correct it's becoming hahaha... Yes, I too love George Carlin... a classic of his own...in fact loved seeing him in person...was even better... another good one bites the dust...

Could you just imagine "Him" running for office........... he'd get my vote !

definately did the purge thing, I had 3 storage units full of my stuff when I moved into my buffet apt for that one year, took me about 2 years to purge through it and reduce the
storage units down to 1 and then I got my fifth wheel and purged the rest. I do have a
shed I keep seasonal stuff in and of course stuff like tools.
The hardest part I've found in purging is throwing out old documents I think I might need
some day for whatever reason, I've still got maybe 6 small boxes of those I need to go
through and get the shredder going.
George Carlin was one of my alltime favorites for a good laugh, I will have to check
into that website and get a few chuckles going, it would be good for my health

that was my question too Mitch! a 'buffer' apartment sounds like a really good transition idea, as I have been seriously thinking about selling this condo for awhile, but am not ready to jump full time to my little Roadtrek!

I know of efficiency or studio apartments (no bedroom). Where does "buffet" come from? I've never heard that term.

I just googled it...not much there except this:

I'm in the midst of a purge myself. Watching those 'Hoarder" shows scares me into thinking 'could I turn into one of those people' so I"m taking a room at a time and getting rid of things I no longer need, use, or want. The hardest things I've had letting go are things that belonged to my Mom including all her financial journals because it had her handwriting. Also her albums of travel photos. Tossed a ton of photos of people I didn't know, places I didn't recognize and won't go myself. Kept the ones of her and scanned them. This week I took boxes and bins of my own collections of stuff my kids did in school, my photos, albums, etc. and found I must have kept every card I ever received! Tossed a ton of those but I did find many that were so wonderfully personal they will stay. Finding a few old letters I had saved got to me trying to locate a couple of people on line. And within just a couple of hours I found them and have renewed a friendship.

Next - my office closest. I'm afraid to open the door for fear of being crushed by the outfall. If you don't hear fromme you'll know I"m under a pile of stuff I should have tossed.
