Campsite housecleaning

Hey all.

Well have got the chicken in the crock-pot cooking for supper tonight. It was a mutual effort getting it going but we should eat good tonight! ;) The only thing left to do for supper is cook up some rice later. Couldn't find the regular liners when we went grocery shopping so bought the oven bags instead. I have one of the bigger oval crock-pots so the bags don't fit quite right but they work. Thanks Barbz for the heads up on them. Truly does save on clean up and while camping we can use all the saving on dish washing that we can get!

I have gotten the ceiling of the screen house sprayed again to try and further waterproof it. The spraying I did the other day worked pretty good but still had some drippies. With all the freaking wind we are getting? I am really not sure just how good the waterproofing spray will do on the seams of the roof? The poles run on the inside of the ceiling and have little velcro strips holding them in place. With this wind it stresses the seams and velcro strips so it might still end up having small drips. I really don't want to have to put a tarp over top of the screen house it would just be something else for the wind to grab, flap and pull on. If it wasn't for the strings in the dead center of the ceiling that tie around the poles to keep it stable I could put a tarp between the poles and roof. ~sigh~ We will probably go the money and get a heavier metal framed canopy. While they are a lot heavier because of the metal frame and legs they are a heck of a lot sturdier too. Would save some grief in the long run. We had one but gave it to David. I got rid of it because of the weight now I'm kicking myself in the butt. If we get the heavier one I will probably ask some of the neighbors if they want this one. Never know, someone might want it. For sure wont throw it away.

If nothing else? The storm yesterday has gotten Kelly into her Organizer Bunny mode. She had been cleaning, straightening up and sorting thru stuff like crazy. She's a good little Bunny when she gets going! She has cleaned her tent again and said the bottom corner of her bed is drying nicely. I cleaned off the one end of the picnic table so that I would have room for the crock-pot. But Kelly is going thru all the totes here in the screen house. We have 2 big wheeled totes, one for camping supplies and one that I put my pots and pans in along with the crock-pot. Then we have other totes that hold our groceries and stuff. So she has her work cut out for her. Not to mention "Mom" has the laptop, Sprint stick and Kelly is bored! But we do have dishes that have to be done up so I will be needing to get off my azz and wash dishes.  Kelly has suggested that we bag up the dirty dishes and take them with us when we go take our showers.

We are talking and cogitating about getting another big wheeled tote from WalMart? Need to figure out what we can use for dividers and store our kitchen type stuff in it, ie. paper plates, cups, cutting boards, seasonings, plastic silverware and utensils. Keep them neat, clean and all in one place. That's not something we need right now anyway, but an idea to kick around. I like the big totes with wheels on them, they are about the size of footlockers. Hold a lot of stuff!

Yep tent camping in and of it's self is an on going adventure!!!! Trials and tribulations!!!

For some reason? The wind has gotten a little quieter? Probably the calm before the storm!!! :o  The sky has gotten darker but hasn't started raining again yet!! Well guess we will find out how the waterproofing is gonna hold up! :D ;) Tomorrow is "suppose" to be nice? Hmmmmm?

If this dang weather ever calms down and it gets nice again?? We will finally get into Q and look up Sheila. Plus we will be able to look around and see what there is to see. But after yesterdays storm and mess while we were in town, I think we will stay our buttocks right here in camp!

Wow - it sure sounds like you're having a heck of an adventure !
I love the big totes - I use them all the time.
To organize the inside of one I'd think you could use those magazine holders, they're great for plates and napkins - you can use good old Ziploc bags for things too - not as organized, but at least stuff is together. Label shoe boxes and put stuff in them - they'd stack nicely and keep things together. Check out the local Goodwill (or whatever you have, wherever you are) and look with an eye toward organizing. There are lots of things that can be used for different uses then they were intended for (that seems like a really rambly sentence !)
Good luck with the waterproofing - hope the wind settles down for you
Take care of yourselves - You can always come to Iowa and live with Molly, Murphy, Chomp and me if you need to :D (by the way - Chomp is my frog, not some biker boyfriend - HA)

Well you'll be pleased to hear we haven't had a gust of wind or torrential downpour since around 7pm tonight, so I think the worse is over and hopefully you'll be back to sunshine, warmth, and get to see Sheila and Kerry soon :) Glad you are surviving the messy weather and keeping your sense of humor.

Good idea on the magazine holder things. But instead of the regular cardboard shoe boxes the plastic ones would be better for camping. And of course some kind of dividers to separate some of the stuff. Be sure we are using the gallon sized plastic zip bags.

Kelly is at her cleaning Organizer Bunny thing again! She has totally emptied her tent out. Has all her blankets in the Blazer, her suitcase on the tailgate, any damp clothing is hung up and around where ever she could find a spot to hang them. And the area rug she had under her mattress is now hung over the tailgate of the trailer. She is sweeping out her tent and plans on resetting the corners and tent stakes too. Hmmm? Me thinks I will sic her after the inside of the screen house again. She did a pretty good job in here yesterday but it still needs it. She pooped out yesterday and quit before it was totally done.

We're talking about getting some kind of collapsible shelving unit thingy. Use it here for storage and neatness and can use it 'home' at the lodge too. ;) Ideas keep churning and floating to the surface.....

Echo and Kelly,
Have you thought of getting a used pop-up tent trailer? That would get you off the ground with a solid roof over your heads and a dinette, stove and sink to use on board (maybe even a porta-potty). You could probably find a used one pretty cheap. Just a thought!! Feel bad about all the work you guys go thru with the tents, etc.

Mom started out with energizer bunny but I told her it was organizer bunny. This bunny can only go for so long, lol. I managed to clean out my tent, hang clothes on the car to dry and to put everything back in my tent. I'll tackle the screenhouse again tomorrow. Poor bunny done ran out of juice! (Sometimes am super organizer bunny but only when I'm mad, lol)

We've thought about it but it wouldn't be practical for full-timing. Too much stuff, not enough room.
