I finally took my new to me motorhome out for a practice backing up session the other day. All went well. I amazed myself with my driving skills. Oh PRIDE!! As I was backing into my driveway again I was so proud of myself for backing in on only two tries. My driveway has two deep culverts on each side. Unfortunately I forgot about the permanent basketball court with basketball hoop at the side of my driveway. My motorhome found it! As a result I smashed in the passenger side bedroom window. It is one of the smaller ones in the rig though. The insurance company and a glass replacement company have been consulted and repairs are in the works.
I just want to thank all of you gals who have in the past shared your various mishaps. It sure made mine much easier to stomach. While I deeply regret the damage, I know it's not the end of the world. Like me, I hope my "Greenhouse" has character. It will have survived the knocks life and me have given it and come out ok.

Oh my,... sorry to hear this Orchid! But you have the right attitude,.... the new window will be nice and soon it will all be just a memory.

OUCH! Don't you just hate it when learning from the School of Hard Knocks, means literally! The window can be replaced, if it would have damaged the side or roof, that may have been harder to repair.

One of the positive outcomes of this mini disaster is that darned rusty basketball goal has been dismanted and lies dead on the yard. I've been trying for ten years to give that thing away. Every couple of years I have to climb a ladder and paint it. I don't even play basketball either! Thanks for the commiseratiion. Cheryl

At least you didn't put the mail chute through a window at noon on a week day in front of the main post office and the janitor has to come out and unscrew the mail box from the sidewalk to get it out of your window. I'm just glad this was before digital cameras and cell phone's with cameras or I would probably be on You Tube.

too bad about the boo-boo, but hey the learning curve swings both ways, in other words..
you may be confident, but don't get over-confident, it could change your life forever in
one blink of the eye. See, you were just looking for an excuse to just take the basketball

My sympathy to you but we all have our stories and not necessarily when we just started. I just finished replacing the door where my electrical cord is stored. Seems someone on a recent trip to Florida started driving off with the cord still plugged in and tore the door off. Can you believe they charge almost $40 for one of those little plastic doors?

My first trip in my Class A, I didn't see a big rock as I pulled out of my camp spot, and carved big long dents along the bottoms of three bay doors. JUST got them fixed, three years later. SOOO .... I have an RVing mantra:

"Everything works properly when properly operated."

The subtext to that is I screw it up at least once before I do it right. Welcome to RVing!

Sorry about the boo boo but you've got the right attitude and a bonus in getting rid of the basketball hoop.
One of my biggest hesitations in getting even a small RV is not being able to learn how to back up. Don't do that well with my current vehicle.

As Blue has said, backing up, even with my truck alone, has never been one of my strong points! Backing up my trailer is always a stressful, traumatic experience, at the very least! Even when I do it here at my house, all alone with no onlookers, and no feelings of "I wonder who is looking at me and wondering what kind of a nut is backing that thing up!" I still go through my own private little hell!

Very happy to hear only a window got damaged, Orchid! I, too, have an old basketball stand in my parking lot that desperately needs painting in a serious way, OR needs to come down-----hopefully mine won't come down via my trailer----however, I like your attitude!

And of course all of you saw Hope's boo boo that was acquired at the Bishop GTG....and it's not like I'm a new driver! Got over 40,000 miles under my butt, so now you have it out of your system and all is well.

My Rv got a boo boo today. I was driving down a VERY narrow dirt road with great trepidation, no room to turn around, praying i didn't meet anyone, being ever mindful of low hanging branches, tall trees on both sides, etc. ...All of a sudden I heard a tremendous long screech like chalk on a chalkboard and knew I'd hit something. Sure enough some branch reached out low on the passenger side and carved a scratch in the gelcoat all down the side. Hope it will buff out with some good wax.
