Does anyone know if this little device works and is safe?

I'm to chicken when it comes to propane, but certainly makes allot of sense! I would worry about overfilling or somesuch. Just how I fly.

well I've never seen such a thing, it looks and sounds pretty nifty, HOWEVER...
I'm a sceptic because when they fill the regular propane tank they have that
one spot they turn open with a screwdriver so the propane will go in, now that
little bottle doesn't have such a thing on it. Is it cheap enough of an item to
give it a try anyway?

I went to amazon and read the comments to see what other people's experiences were. There were 9 people who commented and only 1 who didn't like it. At a cost of around $20 I think I would try it if I used those bottles very much. They say to get the small bottle very cold and the big tank warm to fill it good, I'm assuming this would take care of the pressure you are talking about Ava. I bought several bottles a few years ago to use in my Buddy Heater but haven't even used all those yet (wonder if they expire), BUT if I buy a Weber grill I'm wanting, I just may consider this product. Plus the fact that as soon as a hurricane hits the Gulf, the stores are sold out of the little bottles. Mitch, you can be the tester, if'in Ya get blown up... well, we'll know!

Am I missing something here? Wouldn't you need 20 of those 1lb bottles to fill a 20lb tank? Why would you do that? If I'm having a "duh" moment I'm sure someone will set me straight.

Yes, Sparkle, you ARE having a DUH moment - they are filling the 1# with a 20#! If I used them, I'd try it.

Love the idea? But I would really think twice about it. Sorry. I know I've read somewhere that people have had trouble and a couple of them have blown up while trying to refill them. Can't remember where I read it tho.

I do know that more than a few times after using the small tanks and taking them off of the stove or lanterns? I have had the little stinkers drain and go empty. The seals on the little ones are not the greatest. Whereas the big tanks have the valves that you can actually "shut off".

I too hate like fire to be dependent on those small 1lb tanks. I know that they make the LP tree things that you can hook up and use multiple propane things all at the same time. When I finally get the portable gas grill I want I will be looking into getting one of the 10lb propane tanks. Will still need the 1lb'ers for the lanterns and just in case the 10lb'er runs out. But still like the idea of the 10lb'er and would feel a whole lot safer too.

never seen this, but I use those little bottles every camping trip for our lanterns and gas BBQ. Such a pain having all those emptys floating around..I didn't know they were refillable. doh. part of me wants to give it a go, the other part that got sprayed with propane when I was trying to undo our propane tree from the big tank and almost froze my hand off thinks naaaaaaaaaaah don't try it. But wat a great idea. may do a little more research on the subject. Certainly a neat little gadget.

Something makes me think that I've seen "not refillable" printed on those little tanks. I'm also struggling with quite a few of them, and then the empties to dispose of,... refilling would be nice. Now you have me wondering,.. I'm going to go look at one of mine to see if I see that message printed there.

Donna, when disconnecting your propane tree be sure the big tank is turned off and use your lantern or bbq grill to drain out the hoses on your tree. Simply turn one of them on without lighting it and it should drain just fine.

I don't think I would be brave enough to try it.
I have safety concerns. We have a smaller like 5lb tank that is refillable..and we have a tree thing. That we can use.
I can say what I wish this trailer has was the extra plug for the outside stove. I didn't even check when we bought it...I kinda assumed they all had that feature.
