Made me cry to read this. Have to go get a kleenex. I can only hope to at least make my kids feel that they are as worthwhile as anyone else on earth, including kings and queens and all. They have all had some really traumatic lives, and I don't want them to use these life experiences as excuses for their not being able to be happy and productive, either.
I brought my guitar to school today, and Will, my very youthful and inexperienced teacher supervisor, jumped in with me and we had an entire period with kids trying to play the guitar, and all singing! I believe we all learned a HUGE amount about each other today!
Will will now bring his guitar, too and I need to string one up for my kid who is left-handed, and LOVES to strum and sing! He is the one labeled 'retarded' and yet he was able to come up with truly inovative and right-on and clever AND VERY FAST stanzas for the Blues thingy we did today! He had us all laughing and one girl even peed her pants she laughed so hard! This kid can come up with stanzas very apropriate for us all without missing a beat! We will spend at least one period a week now for what we will call 'Music therapy!' And I will teach basic three-chord guitar in my study hall, for anybody interested.
AND------TADA TADA TADA!!!! The school board made me an offer for my sick days, which, as soon as I see it in writing, I will probably most surely accept and turn in my retirement papers! I am sure they feel it's a GREAT bargain to be able to 'buy me off' and get rid of me for more shy and retiring and 'Yessir' type novices with lower salaries than mine at this point! I will be only too happy to accomodate them!
