Home I am, and THANK YOU ONE AND ALL for the birthday wishes!

My nemesis child at school asked me if I was going out to dinner to celebrate my birthday tonight, (they announce all birthdays on the morning announcements, unfortunately) and I replied that I wasn't. He said, "Well that really sucks. Fuck! I wish we lived closer and I'd take you out!-----I---I mean Damn------errrr------Dang!" I thanked him and told him I appreciated the gesture and kind wishes.

Now THAT was a birthday present I will remember all the rest of my life. :) Perhaps the nicest one I have ever received.

He also brought in a photo album of him and his family, to show me him as a baby, and his mom and dad, who is in jail. I was honored to see that. He also mentioned that he loved his mom in spite of what she did to him (abandon him to his grandmother), but that he just can't get along with her as she is an alcholic and drug abuser. (She lives in the Bronx.) I also reminded him that she was only his present age when she had him----15 years old, a baby, really-----and was overwhelmed by the responsibility of a child. He thought about it for a minute, and said, "She WAS my age, wasn't she?"

All in all, it was a good day. And, to top it all off, the head of the teachers' union told me she would have an offer about my sick days by 6th period tomorrow! That may or may not be a good present, too!

Liz----March 15, the Ides, is Nasus Day----way better loved by me than my birthday, as that's MY DAY to do whatever I wish! It started in high school when we read Julius Caesar, and I picked that day to be MINE! My best friend from back in those days, who never missed a Nasus Day greetings, unfortunately died of a brain tumor a couple of years ago, and I so do miss her. She and I were close all through our lives, no matter how many miles were between us. We were, after all, Doctor Gould and Dr. Martineau----and Captain Nemo and Captain Sequole----and on and on! She lives on in my memory and in the many photos we took over the years.

So that was my day.

Happy travels!

I'm so glad you had a good day,.... and I'm still chuckling about how that boy who has started to trust you tried to clean up his speech for you! You are doing a great job with that kid, Soos!

It always humbles me to think that sometimes meeting one person can make the difference in a person's life. Teacher's presence is never to be underestimated......it is the most important thing they do. I believe that it is a natural instinct within us that helps us learn once we have the motivation to care...or to believe that we can try...... That is the best ingredient that a teach can give...... So this year may just turn out to be a wonder for at least one young man.......
