Fay is coming to visit

Postby Gentleladybear » Sun Aug 17, 2008 7:43 pm

Yep Fay the hurricane is going to visit Florida this week, we just don't know where she will make her visit. Right now they are looking at landfall anywhere from Sanibel Island to Cedar Key. Now I am sure most of you don't know where Cedar Key is, but it is almost at the curve of Florida on the northwest end. It is 50 miles from my house!! They believe if it doesn't make landfall until it gets to about Cedar Key it is really going to build up some strength in the warm gulf waters.

We are already beginning to get a lot of rain, overcast days and that means it is on the way. We are battening down the hatches cause she is going to create a blow here ladies. But we don't know how much of one yet, but there will be lots and lots of rain for sure.

Stay posted as we give you updates.

Thanks for the update Nan - I was just about to post to ask who, if any of you, were near Fay's path. Please do all you can to stay safe. It wasn't long ago it was me in your position - and it's a scary feeling to not know where Fay will land, or how powerful she'll be.

Take care, my friend, and any others of you who might be in her path. I'll be keeping all of you in my prayers.

Nan,
Are you familiar with hurricanes? If so, then you know what to do, if not and it is suppose to hit 50 miles from your house, then I would be seriously entertaining the idea of taking the trailer and heading west for a day or two. I live in Baton Rouge and we are not gonna sit another one out. We sat out Andrew and saw my roof go across the yard! Never again.
Hope whatever you do, you are safe. Went without electricity, water, or sewer for 6 days in Andrew. Don't want to do it again. Lost everything in the fridge and the freezer. Had bottled water, cooked on a portable propane stove or the grill, used portable potty from camper. Something to think about.

Florida is my home, lived here all my life so went through many hurricanes over the years. My job now requires me into work if a hurricane hits as we must help with the clients. So not sure how or what I will do in this one yet should know by tomorrow. Sure they are going to be on full alert at work.

But have a generator and the motorhome to work generators for my house, so will have everything prepared here.

Fay can't seem to be sure which side of the state she wants. But if the winds stay around 60 MPH shouldn't have a lot of damage. But the water is welcome. We should know by in the morning what she plans to do. Right now they are looking for her to enter Florida about Ft. Myers by in the morning, if so it should fall apart pretty quick. Will keep you posted as it progresses.

Fay is such a fickled lady she can't decide where she wants to go. Right now she is in Orlando visiting Disney world, but understand she wants to go play in the water again around Daytona Beach. But then, being the fickled lady she is she wants to come back in about Jacksonvile and try to cross the state again, which will bring her back to my front door. Fay is taking such a round about way to come visit me. The concern now is if she gets back over water around Daytona, she might strengthen back into a hurricane. This is why you never run until you know which way to go.

After Fay we have another one forming, so could have more company in about a week. Won't give me much time to clean the house before the next guest arrives.
