Thanks for the reminder! I so enjoyed watching our little eaglet go from egg to leaving the nest last year.

Edit: just checked out the site and something must be going to happen as there is a whole fish laying in the nest. So I think our resident couple is back! It did say they are one of the latest nesters. Sort of layed back in their marriage. Good for them!

Thought I'd check on the eagles nest again before shutting down my computer and was pleasantly surprised when the camera on the left was moving! I got to see a 360* view of what is around the nesting area. I was surprised to see a factory of some sort behind with a huge smoke/steam stack, some rural homes and vehicles passing on a road. I just assumed the nesting area was way out in the wilds somewhere.

I just checked out the eagle cameras. There's 3 eggs and an eagle moving them around right now!!!! Cool.

Looks like they finally got the other camera up and working. I hadn't checked since getting my new computer as I had a shortcut icon on my desktop that I checked every morning. Thanks for the reminder!

Every morning I check the Eagle nest. I hope they didn't make a big mistake choosing that tree. Shade would be nice in the heat of the summer, but I think that tree is dying or dead. Look at the bark. I read that the nest are very heavy. I suspect Moma and Papa Eagles are smarter than me. I spend way too much time looking at Eagles and Lily and her cubbie.

We have to think the eagles know all about nest building, so we'll see. Perhaps this is a young pair and not to smart?

Eagles are very smart. Some have 2 nests, sometimes a third, even. It helps protect their territory, I believe. However, once the eggs are in a nest, that's it for the babies. They don't move the eggs if something happens to that nest. I've know an eagle's nest to be destroyed by the weather - the babies had already been born. But we didn't know if they were capable of flying. One of the fisherman who lived near us found the nest they moved to - and discovered for sure at least one of the babies made it. We were thrilled. When I lived there I watched the nests that I knew of all the time.

Since their nests are usually close to the top of the trees, there is rarely any shade for any of them. But they are so big - and so roomy inside, they probably have a way to make their own shade if necessary.

There is a bald eagle that hangs out near the lake here in the summers. I just saw him yesterday, so he is back for the season now. They are so awesome! My mom and I were at my brother's cabin years ago in northern Wisconsin and saw an eagle pair teaching their two eaglets how to dive for fish. One of them caught one and landed on the dock to eat it. Very interesting to watch!

I lived on a lake in Alaska and we had many pairs nesting in the shore trees, and one pair nested in the tree at the end of our neighbor's driveway. It was fun to watch, ended up hatching only one egg and got to see that baby grow up and fly away. Allot of times several would fly low over our yard and it's amazing the swishing sound of their powerful wings beating the air as they fly. Sometimes in the winter an eagle would make a kill of a rabbit or whatever and then sit on the frozen ice to eat. I also love to listen to the eagles chatter to each other. Magnificent birds, for sure.
