TWOSDAY TUESDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

TWOSDAY TUESDAY

Postby Nasoosie » Tue Jan 05, 2010 5:20 am

GOOD MORNING ALL!

(Twosday because second school day of this new year. I see that we missed Monday coffee hour altogether!)

It remains at about 9 degrees above zero here, and it's STILL snowing! I shoveled about another 4 inches of the white stuff off my front deck yesterday after school, and there's another 2, or so, out there this morning. Now, when it warms up a tad, skiing will be wonderful, but I will need to pack my trails again, as the snowshoe trails I made and that Melissa went over will be buried.

The poor campers in FL are feeling cold and depressed, and I can't blame them. They certainly cannot say that FL is hot and humid, however! That will still be my destination for a winter's stay some one of these years.

I am taking tomorrow off to renew my driver's license and have a free afternoon. I'm getting the enhanced driver's license so I can feel free to enter Canada and get back home if I so choose. We are so close to the Canadian border up here that it will be a good thing to have. Also, if/when I head for the west coast once again to visit my daughter in Portland, OR, I would start the trip by going through Canada to Sioux St. Marie---way shorter and prettier than going around the Great Lakes. I am just hoping my distance vision is still good enough to read the eye charts!

I have over 200 sick days I am going to petition the school board for part of if/when I retire---if I had 15 years in the position I am in now, I would get 34% of the value of the number of sick days over 100 that I have accrued---I have over 200. IF they will allow me to do that, even though I would have only 14 years in this current position, I would seriously consider telling them goodbye. IF they won't allow me to do that, I will tell them outright that I will take as many of those days as I can between now and when I retire----and that would cost them way more money, as they will have to hire a sub for me as well as pay me. Our contract is worded as such that I need those 15 years in order to realize any money from my good health and non-use of sick days.

Must figure out how to get this request underway today, and type up my petition, or document.

Saturday I will have my truck serviced at the Ford dealer's, get a quote for new tires and for a waranty extension, OR get a quote for a new truck replacement at the same payment amount I am making now. It will have to be the exact same color, too, as my new camper cap is made for this color! If Ford has any old 2009 truck deals, I would go for one of them.

Our Bronx-visiting student spent all of yesterday in internal suspension due to a brawl he got into before vacation, so the classroom was unusually quiet! Also, the screamer from next door was not yet back from her vacation, so it was almost tolerable between our two rooms!

I went to bed early last night and let the wood fire go out, so it's a bit chilly in here this morning. Coffee is hot, however, and tastes good, so stop by and let us know about your day! There are even some pistachio muffins left! As I have said before, I look forward to reading your posts when I get home from school.

School day one in January 2010 has come and gone----YIPPEE!!

Happy travels!

I'm here at school,... wow.. was I running late today! i need to discipline myself more in the morning to stick to my tasks of getting out the door. I had good intentions today, but got side-tracks.

I'm here in the high school's computer lab,... Have 9 students here,... 10th graders and 12th graders. A good group this hour.

It's overcast and sort of "misting" snow,... barely able to see it. It might actually be just frost off the lake that is probably chilling down to freeze over.

Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning all!

Well, I have to say that I dure don't envy those of you dealing with cold weather. I think that So. CA is about the only place in the country that's warm right now. We were in the high 70s yesterday and will only drop a couple of degrees today. I hear that we're supposed to hit mid-60s by the end of the week, but I'm not complaining.

Soos, I still have 6 more years before I can retire and it's becoming more & more difficult to think about how many more wake-ups until I can call it quits. Hang in there ... the end is in sight. There are days when being with the kids is an absolute delight, and then others make me want to chuck the whole thing and find some mindless job flipping burgers somewhere. Won't do it, but sure think about it at times.

I hope everyone's day is good. I'll soak up a little sun for you all. ;)

Morning, ladies!
Looks like we are in the mid 30s here this morning. Highs will be about 10* warmer. Still way too cold for me, but not going to complain as the rain that is now pouring down could be freezing on, which it isn't. Christine, I forget what part of the state you are in. Is it raining there, too?
I woke up with a bit of a tummy ache, but feel ok now. Not sure what that was all about but did feel queasy when I went to bed last night, too.
Bowling today! Yippee, as I love bowling. I need to visit Lisa, one of our bowlers that had a stroke just before Christmas. She is experiencing the paralysis on her one side but the Drs are more concerned that her mind has been affected as she continues to bounce into child-like speech and behavior. So sad as she's only in her early 40s.
That's pretty much it for me so far. Coffee is hot and tastes good, as usual. Oatmeal later after I shower.
Stay warm and safe everyone!

Good morning all.

Not much going on today, just trying to stay warm. Should be about 25 today and single digits tonight. We will be getting some unheard of temps Thursday and Friday of minus 3 or -5. I have never been in temps that cold, so this should be interesting. We also will be getting more snow . Will have to get some firewood and just stay put. :D Doesn't seem to bother the puppies that much. They are still playing outside with the neighbor "kids" and staying out just as long.

Going to refill my cup of coffee and read what everyone is up to. Linda

GOOD MORNING SISTAHS!

Have no idea where my head is at this morning? I thought I had posted to the coffee club this morning already, imagine my surprise when I found no posting from me? Hmmmmm

Brrrrr What the heck is going on and where the heck has all the warmer temps gone to. It was 19f last night before I went to bed and it was 19f when I went outside this morning. Have no idea if it changed over night or not??? David's dog sleeps out on the back porch and it's been cold enough this past week that she lay out there shivering. Told David about us covering Honey up and her shivering and he put a small electric heater out there for her and the cat last night. Happy critters now! ;)

Not really much planned for today. Kelly wants badly to go to a movie but can't decide which one to go see as there are 6 of them she's interested in. Today I guess will either be the Chipmunk sequel (called Squeekquel) or Avatar. I might go with her? David is off to work and Jenny is off to meet up with a friend of her's and then to an appointment at King Collage at 1:30. She is taking either one or two classes there this semester. She is suppose to start back to work this coming weekend.

Trying to get a few wrinkles worked out before we leave here this weekend. Hope they work out for us as then we can plan our route out back to AZ. ~sigh~ Warmer temps, I don't know how I will be able to stand it!!!

Ya'll have a great day, bundle up good if needed. And remember to stay safe!!!

Love to all

It's cold, gray and polluted again today in the Salt Lake Valley. We get this inversion that traps all the fog & #!$*& close to the ground, and breathing is not recommended. I'm cranky (as you can tell) and putting together a list of errands today. One is to take my big little dog, Bandit, to the vet. His hindquarters are becoming weaker and weaker and we need to find out whether the arthritis in his spine has gotten worse, or something else has added to the problem. Sigh. Watching my old friend age is tough.

Have a good day, ladies!

Thanks, everyone. I'm going to take him 1st thing in the morning tomorrow ... I had a hard time getting everything moving in the same direction this morning. He's not sick ... he's declining. So it isn't an emergency visit (thank goodne$$ ... he ha$ a penchant for getting $ick on national holiday$ and after hour$!)

"he ha$ a penchant for getting $ick on national holiday$ and after hour$!"

They all do! My animals ALWAYS get sick/injured on weekends, holidays or in the middle of the night! And after-hours emergency clinics are horribly expensive!

It is very hard to watch a pet go downhill. My first four ferrets all died of cancer and it was tough to watch them decline until I had to take them in and help them cross over. I lost a cat and a ferret last April which was very difficult being so close together. They are my kids.

My vet said something recently about them changing the vaccinations that they give cats because they thought what they were using might be giving them cancer. Do you have to vaccinate ferrets?

Yes, the ferrets are vaccinated for rabies and canine distemper. They are very prone to adrenal cancer (approx 95%) and it is thought that it is due to them being nocturnal animals and are exposed to too much artificial light which messes up their hormones and causes tumors on their adrenal glands. They also feel it could be because they are spayed and neutered too young (at 4 weeks of age) before they are sexually mature. I read a book recently that says that pets in the US get cancer from commercial pet foods (chemicals/preservatives), since cancer is the leading cause of death in cats, dogs, and ferrets here. I wouldn't doubt that, either. Ferrets in Europe are kept outdoors in natural light, fed a natural diet of meat, and not fixed until at least 6 months of age. They hardly ever get cancer.

Long answer to a short question... sorry

Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday...Oh what I'd give for a Hamburger (who was that - Wimpy on Popeye???)
Anyhoooooooooooo, not much going on here...Weather has been warm/sunny and if I could spread it all around to get the chill away from the rest of you I would. Work routine back to normal after almost 2 weeks of holiday down time 1/2 days...which was verrrrrry nice. Finished the day with an art class (Yup, I'm still painting water colors), and then home for pizza with hubby and son, and chillen in my flannels watching Biggest Loser. Tomorrow is Hump Day and I'm off Friday so 2 more official days this week ;)
Getupngo, hope your precious Bandit is okay.
Take care everyone, Good Night and God Bless :)
