So far the reports are of only minor damage. The center was located in Mexicali.

There was an earthquake in AK last summer...I never felt it, but another of our group farther south did.

Speaking as a former California resident, they probably didn't even notice it unless it was over 5. No one even paid attention to anything around 3 or 4. When I moved to Texas they kept asking me how I could live in California with all the earthquakes. My response was we had a MAJOR earthquake about every 5 years and they have huge tornados EVERY year. Who is the crazy person?

It was a 5.8 quake centered just south of Mexicali. People in Palm Springs felt it, saying it was a rolling sensation for a minute or so. So those guys probably felt it too a little, or at least noticed things swaying a little.

There are lots of little earthquakes in CA everyday that no one feels. The earth is always moving out there. It is just when it gets "stuck" for awhile and the pressure builds up, and then finally breaks free that they get a big one like that. I lived in Santa Barbara for awhile and never felt one while I was there.

some felt it here and others didn't when you mention that you felt it then they think back and say oh that is what it was....
I'm sure that they are ok but thanks for the reassurances

We felt it out near El Centro, Ca where we were playing in the dunes. I was draining the water out of the cooler in the back of the jeep and the jeep started rockin' and rollin'....thought Mickey was shaking the jeep to aggravate me, but he was standing over by the trailer...then every one in camp started shouting "earthquake!!". It was kind of cool, at least we didn't have to worry about anything falling on us! Lasted about 30 seconds or so.

Didn't notice it. My son really wanted to feel an earthquake when he was stationed in California and was really ticked when we had one in Alabama!

Didn't feel a thing - but maybe we were further away when it hit. Or maybe not lol - but no, didn't feel it.
