We need a new thread ...

I'm tired of recycling all these threads (with apologies to Barbie for her excellent question!).

SO ... what is your favorite gift that you are giving to someone this Christmas? My middle grandson is
very artistic, and I'm giving him a kit that has all kinds of things to make monster hand puppets. I
can't wait to see what he makes to entertain himself and his brothers.

How about you?

Sleeping bags to the grand-kids to use when they come stay with us in the summer......and a pencil coloring book of civil war fashions for my Mom...before she started failing with the Alzheimer's she was so artistic and craft-minded...and a big fan of "Gone With The Wind" and that era of fashion....so this should keep her busy for quite a long time.....I found it when we took Tina and Peggy to Gettysburg for a tour....remember the gift shop while you gals were watching the show..... ;)

Favorite gift I'm giving is to my friend Kathy,... her knickname is Kat-tail. Found a set of dishes in Cabela's with cattails on them. Can't wait for Christmas morning! :D

No thoughtful considerate presents being given out around here...I went with gift cards to Lowe's........You can go practical or "pretty".....is just seemed that everyone here in the family had either just moved, will be moving and rehabing or will be putting electric in a "Pottery Barn." It seemed the gifts could cover everyone's imagination.....

The dogs all got their licenses renewed and I wish them Merry Christmas, as legal pups with a warm home and food in their bowl...they don't seem to appreciate the gesture much, especially the singing....well except maybe Remi and Herschel ...I think they might remembers when those things didn't exist.. :?

Mostly gift cards here for the grown kids. Grand kids got DVDs, video games, a doll/clothes and a couple small games. They already own everything under the sun!

My niece has a collection of lava lamps, and a thing for skulls. I was able to find a left over from Halloween that has a swirly white cloudy inside, with a sleeve of carved out skulls. It looks pretty cool when working. Had to make sure it worked. (I also played with her toys before wrapping them up. ) I also got her another lamp with black lava in white liquid. For friends and family I usually make christmas ornaments and send them out ahead of time so they can put them on their trees. Linda

P.s. can't wait to find out what everyone got for Christmas.

My family decided not to exchange gifts this year but I did get gifts for the furkids. My ferret, Moxy, has a thing for small yellow rubber duckies. He has one that he moves around all over and hides in different places for safe keeping. I bought him a whole bag of yellow rubber duckies! There is about 8 of them in the bag. I can't wait to see how he reacts when he sees all of them! He will be in ducky heaven! That should keep him busy for hours putting them all in safe places around the apartment! I will try to take pics!

PS> Lori, my mom was also a huge fan of the civil war and 'Gone With The Wind'. She must have watched the videos a hundred times! She knew the whole thing by heart!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Family dinner was last night,... and we exchanged gifts. (Except for Kathy and I, we'll do that tomorrow a.m.) My shopping for family gifts was all done online, mostly from Cabela's (free shipping deal!) or Amazon. Sooooooooooooooo easy!

Hijack:
Lori and Barbie. I just watched a biography on VIvian Leigh. I didn't know she suffered greatly from bi-polar. She even had that shock therapy where they put the paddles on each side of your head and make you bit on something so you don't bite your tongue!! They said she'd come to work sometimes with burn marks on her temples. She caught TB, and got over it, but it returned. That's what she finally succumbed to in the end. So sad.
End hijack

Hmmm? Nothing frivolous this year that's for sure.

Got David, Jenny and Connor each their own garment racks. There is only two closets in this house, one on the back porch and one in the half hall next to the bathroom. So the kids have no where to hang up their clothes. Got them a motorized stick vacuum. Got Jenny a set of 3 measuring cups 1cp, 2cp and 4cp. And to add to that a glass measure that shows ounces, tsp and tbsp and one that measures with a lid to shake it up. I really like that one. I might get myself one just like it. ;) Got David some drill bits with screwdriver bits included, a metal pail and stove shovel to clean ashes out and Kelly got him a pack of new underwear. Told her we should have gotten 2 packs. Good grief that boy needs drawers!!! Probably should have gotten him new jammy pant too. The ones he has looks like they had a major 'blow-out'. Connor is the one we bought for. He made out like a bandit. I think I'm getting into that Nana mode and Kelly is getting into that Aunty mode. If she were around all the time she would be a wicked soft touch. Would have to get Connor a T that says, "If everybody else says no, ask Aunt Kelly"!!!!   It's wild to watch how mushy and emotional she gets when she holds him.

For our Christmas, Kelly and I will take care of each other later.

In a few days I can share my favorite gift.
I made a One True Media slide show for my 2 brothers and sister of our dad (he passed away in 1982). It took some sneaking around and getting pictures from my SIL, BIL, niece and cousins. We made DVD"s of it.
My sister did grow suspicious...as she asked her DD one day...Where did that picture for my dad with Ron (our oldest brother go). My niece assured her it was okay not to worry (BIL took them to work to scan them). Niece said "we didn't think you would notice". My sister was like..that is one of my most favorite pictures..what makes you think I would not notice it. It is a picture of my brother..he must be about 4-5 years old and is shaving our dad's face.

I made photo slide show..of our dad as a child, his navy years, then fatherhood years and then pictures of us kids growing up. It is about 12 minutes long.

I called my mom tonight, they had opened them (well the one brother and sister that were at her house). But they had not watched it. They want to watch it later in private as they knew it will make them cry. I told mom I thought about including a box of Kleenex.

Once I found out they have seen it, I can make it a share link, so anyone I share the link with can go and see it.

I spent 3 months working on this. When it was finished..I did give my SIL the information to log in and see it and check it for me, she never met our dad and she called me about 2 mins into it and said it had her in tears and see never even met him. It was good that she did get to see it, she knows now to make sure Ron watches it first without everyone else around.

So yep that would be my favorite gift.
