Barbie, I clicked on the link and it came up with the RvTrader web site, but said that that particular listing is no longer available on their site.

OK...that didn't work right. It is still on that site tho. Click on "FIND", then "Class B" under RV Type, then find "Chinook" under Manufacturer, then type zip code "55391" within 250 miles. It should come up then. (There must be an easier way, but I don't know what that would be. Sorry :? )

Thanks Vickie! I am not very computer savvy.
I think it is a little over-priced. NADA says it is worth about 9k. My SO can work out the negotiations
It does look pretty clean. I love the dusty rose color! So many interiors are blue and I really dislike blue. I would like to have an oven since I like to bake cookies and hot dishes (those of you not from Minnesota, that would be casseroles).

Some of the ladies that don't have ovens use toaster ovens, just a thought.

Can you bake cookies and casseroles in a toaster oven? It would also be nice to have a seperate shower and a seperate bedroom too, but I gotta start somewhere! I can move up into something bigger later. I want to start small until I get the hang of it. Now just gotta convince the SO to drive up north to look at it. He wants to find something for $10K or less, with 40K miles or less. I doubt there is anything that good of a deal out there.

Here's a thread where toaster ovens are discussed from earlier in the year: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2481&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=toaster+oven

You could make the casseroles at home and freeze them in individual packages to bring with you. It looks like that Class B has a pretty good size fridge/freezer. Plus it would save on propane to not have to run an oven for a long period of time. In time you will come up with things to make it easier.

How long have you been looking for a Class B? Have you gone to look at any to see what they have or don't have, what you like/hate about certain things in there, that would be a good place to start. Go online too and look at floor plans, but it's never the same as looking inside yourself.

A couple of questions that come to mind would be the age of the refrigerator and the tires. Both would be over $1000 to replace if needed. Chinooks have a good reputation but think the company has gone out of business. I don't think that matters much because so much in an RV is standard and made by other companies. RV's are expensive to get worked on so you want to get one with as few problems as possible unless you are handy.

I have looked at a lot of RV's (B's and C's) on-line but not yet in person. There aren't a lot of them around here for some reason (maybe because of the time of year). This was all just a pipe dream until my SO offered to buy me one, so I have been looking a lot, over the past month or so. I saw a B on line last week but it is gone now, but that one had a full bath/seperate shower, an oven, and a cab-over bunk. It was only $5K but was older with a lot of miles. I want to avoid having to sink any money into repairs/replacements right off the bat.

I have also seen that some rigs have the microwave/convection oven combo, but I am not sure how they work or how much they cost.

Thanks Vickie, for the toaster oven thread. That was very interesting! I get a little nervous around gas appliances anyways so the toaster oven would be a great alternative! You gals are so full of great ideas and information!

Unless your SO is good at mechanic work I'd pass (IMHO) on a unit that old unless it was on a Toyota chassis. I don't know if they have car-fax reports that goes back that far but that is worth checking on any vehicle you consider. Good luck with your search.

Good luck of finding that "it'll do for now" rv. Wanted to make a comment about car fax. We sold our Class C last year and later got a phone call from the new owner. They had a car fax report on it, but it didn't even mention that we had put a brand new transmission in it which had only about 10,000 miles (not the over 50,000 miles) we had on the rig and was fully warranted. So nothing is perfect. They picked ours out of all the others because we had replaced the carpet with linoleum and they loved that. carold

I would try to be patient and look at several before choosing....even if you have to travel a ways.

This is not a good time of year for it because it's probably winterized, but I would ask that water be put in all holding tanks, run all the faucets, toilet, shower head, etc., and check for leaks. Check the dump valves that they don't stick or leak. Test the AC, heater, hot water heater. Have the refrigerator turned on and running. Check that it works both on elec. and gas. If available, study the service records and look for patterns of repairs. (If I had done that on my 2002 Pleasureway last year, I'd have noticed how many times they had the refrigerator worked on....I ended up replacing mine after attempting one repair.) If possible have your mechanic check out the engine, brakes, exhaust & tires. Look for evidence of roof leaks in the interior (stains on walls, etc.) Look for rust underneath. Climb up on the roof and inspect.

My first B van, a Roadtrek did not have a generator. I didn't miss having one, got along fine without it, but sure appreciate having one now...especially when boondocking. It depends on the type of camping you plan to do. If you'll be staying primarily in campgrounds with hookups, you won't miss it.

As others have said, there are other ways to bake. I don't miss having an oven. Before a long trip, I always prepare several meals in advance that can be frozen and popped in the microwave. Sure is handy after a day of traveling, sightseeing, etc. And saves $$$ from eating out, too.

Others will have other suggestions, I'm sure.
