We're having trouble with our home automation/control system and I needed to see what kind of plug the dryer has so I could order a special piece of equipment to resolve the issues. You haven't met me - I'm pretty short - not like midget-sized, but close. Lowered myself back there with no problems. Getting back up turned out to be the problem! I tried and tried to not have to call George for help. He eventually had to bring me a stool!! It was pretty funny and I'm thankful he in the house!

Dinners cookin :D put together a pot of chili, tossed in a can of creamed corn and one of
those turkey thighs from the freezer. It smells good. Does anyone else put corn in their
chili? We did it all the time in Colorado but folks here think its weird. I can't imagine
chili being chili without corn in it. Also have applesauce and for crackers I've got Triscuits.
Chow down, theres plenty and on a cold day it just hits the spot :D
Stir the fire and toss on another log, sit down with you all and my bowl of chili and I'm in
heaven, toes are toasty warm too. Ahhhhh, I'm happy.

I don't put corn in my chili, but hey, whatever floats your boat! I do have a friend that always serves corn whenever her family has pizza! Figure that one out.
I also made chili, but I make white chili. Yum! Tasted pretty good as our high temp today was only 25*!

Sometimes I put corn in chili, sometimes not. Sometimes I put corn in homemade salsa, sometimes not. Depends on what I have and what sounds good. Corn does give it extra color, though.

Toasty warm now :D and the chili was so good, I took some to work today
for my lunch. The creamed corn was only because the can I grabbed and opened
happen to be the creamed variety but it only made the chili more creamy around
the beans, meat and turkey.
My fed ex delivery never came in time before I had to go to work so I left the guy
a HUGE note so he would see it and it will be delivered Saturday, it has to be
signed for, its my new scanner from Nielsen Homescan, the other one wouldn't
scan the groceries. So Nielsen gave me 4 weeks credit for work I didn't do. Will
start scanning groceries again this weekend I guess.
The fire feels good, dogs are happy and I just wish I had a little hot toddy to go
with the evening.

my thoughts on chili

Postby JanetA » Thu Dec 10, 2009 8:57 pm

I can handle BEANS in chili,, as lots of folks do,, to stretch it, ,but CORN? never heard of that,, at least down here in northern Mexico, (texas). Purists NEVER put beans in their chili,,,it's just a Texas thang. As for me, ,depends on what I'm serving it with or ON. Sometimes I put it on hotdogs or hamburgers (making chili burgers or dogs,, ) beans on such would NEVER do!

so much for my input....

Hmmmm, I've had beans in chili in TX. I like beans in chili - like chili without beans. Would probably like chili with corn.

Had a friend when I lived in MN, she was making spaghetti sauce. She's Italian. She put carrots in her sauce. I had never heard of it. She will throw almost any vegie in her house in her spaghetti sauce. Somehow it always works for her. But I've never put carrots in mine to date :)

I've put carrots in spaghetti sauce for many years, ever since trying out a recipe once and loving it. Delicious. Chopped very small, though. Also celery, onions, garlic. Never tried corn in spaghetti sauce, though.

Oh for heavens sake! If you were married to an Italian of course you would put carrots in your spaghetti sauce! Dave grated them and they just disapeared into the sauce. The carrots take away the bitterness you can get from tomatoes.
Barbzee. do you agree?

Yep. Some recipes tell you to add sugar to the sauce. Nope. Carrots work so much better. And I wasn't married to an Italian, either (Irish, then German).

well I've put grated carrots in my sauce. Or gravy if Barbz is reading! ;) I really have no idea why?? Except after I did it I remember my Great Aunt Stella grating carrots for her's and her husband still had his accent. To this day tho I can't in all honesty remember if she was married to 'John' or 'Steve'? I think it was Steve and John was his brother. gads they looked and sounded so much alike!!!! But other than Aunt Stell's husband there's no Italian here. Dutch, Irish, Swede and Cherokee. All American Heinz!!! LOL

I thought I was gonna join in on a little campfire conversation and some wine. Well at least the spaghetti sauce is still conversation!! ;)

Weather is taking a turn for the worse out there. Suppose to really get some rain tonight w/sleet mixed in. Oh Joy!!! Fire feels heavenly and of course the company is fab!

well I never put corn in the spaghetti sauce or carrots for that matter, but I
will say everytime I've made a spaghetti meal, if I didn't have corn and applesauce
on the plate with it, something was missing. I love applesauce with every meal!
Oh, and the corn in the chile....makes it a tad sweet, which I like :D
