Yuma Territorial Prison State Historical Park

Built in 1876 by the prisoners themselves. It also housed women. You could be sent to prison for adultory then. That could come back to haunt me! This is the Guard Tower, Beth climbing the steps.
Image

The Sallyport. A corruption of a french word meaning entry way. A horse and wagon could come in and the gate closed behind it before the next gate was opened.
Image

If you were a prisoner you went through this iron strap gate.
Image

And here was home for however long your sentence was.
Image

The interior. 6 bunk beds. A potty for at night. Note the iron ring in the floor.
Image

For an infraction of the rules you would be chained by a wrist or leg fetter to the ring. Later they made the rule that for an infraction, everyone in the cell was chained. That did not make for popularity.
Image

Remember the adultory rule? They got her. Caught in the act no less. By the way, this is how they did the mugs shots then. One photo, but it gave front view and profile.
Image

I should be rotten and not post mine, but Beth would get such sweet revenge I decided it wasn't worth the risk.

BETH FORGOT TO SIGN OUT ON MY COMPUTER. SO THIS POSTING IS BY SPARKLE IN CASE YOU WERE CONFUSED.

Another place for the list - have read about it but always forget its there when in the neighborhood. When are you crossing into MX? Plan on taking your time, don't drive fast and DONT DRIVE AT NIGHT! And remember the toll roads are NOT like our highways and freeways - all kinds of things wander around them - like cows, people, bicycles, wagons etc. And when you get near towns watch out for the TOPES - slow way way down going over them. And don't try to pass a bus - it will be a losing battle. Have mucho fun.

Sparkle did NOT want to do a mug shot, but after I convinced her (was getting mad, don't think she ever saw me mad before) she really got into it. We had fun - trying to think mean. I was going for murderer look lol - but hey, and yep, I'm sure there will be a use for it in Mitch's hands one day. Thought about putting it as my avatar temporarily, but if you don't like what's there now, hate to think of that one :)

It was a hoot to do - Sparkle pointed out when we were looking at prisoner pictures how they must have used a mirror - so when they had it there - that was so neat.

Nice to see me doing a post - even if I didn't :)
