Wouldn't it be nice if the news reported, "9,000 RVers parked in Walmart parking lots today and were safe and happy"? We hear about the one person who was shot or car jacked or robbed at a nearby supermarket or gas station, and we wonder if we are safe anywhere today. We never stop to think about the millions of people who shopped or got gas today who didn't have a problem! The odds are still in our favor.

p.s. You are so right, Karen. I rarely go out after dark and it makes me mad that I have to even consider why, but, on the other hand, it's just a different world today and it's wise to be careful. Not scared to death - but careful.

I'm sure it has to do with geography and demographics, but I am never afraid to venture out at night here at home. Salt Lake City is really a safe place. Sure, we have crime, but there are always LOTS of people out and about, and numbers increase one's safety. Some neighborhoods are dodgy, to be sure. But most are nice, clean and safe.

I'm really feeling fortunate. I have a nice little S&B with a view of the towering Mt. Olympus off my back deck. Takes about 10 minutes to get there, and then into the woods. I have an RV to take me wherever I want to go, with the comforts of home.

And I agree that the news media (in which I took part in my "other" life) only publicizes the crimes, not the safety. Add to that (... SOAPBOX ALERT! SOAPBOX ALERT!) the media ratings battles that foster fear in women for themselves and their children. "Coming up at 11 ... how to protect yourself during the holiday season." PHTHHHHH! When was the last time you saw a teaser about dangers to MEN? Yeah, I thought so. If it's a danger to men, it's a danger to everyone. But women? Blare the horns. And why do you think children are driven EVERYWHERE? Media fear-mongering. Makes me sick.

END SOAPBOX ALERT. You can look again.

Kind of like the stories on Mexico. We aren't in any more danger there than here in urban areas. But the few stories make all the news - just like that one.

Those of you who have said, just always be aware of what's around you - it's true where ever we are - and whether in an rv or not.

Where have you been hiding, Vickie? Have missed you! Glad to see you back and in such good form. Someone has to keep Mitch in check :)

Sparkle, you can make diamonds from coal. At least Superman could, and a woman can do anything better than a man that wears tights. Linda
