Slab City, Ca. Adults Only

Beth took Peaches for a walk up a hill and found these two enormous water towers. As Chris said we also met the artist. And in our humble opinion these are art. Remember, art is in the eye of the beholder. All art should affect you emotionally, and the first tower had such a feeling of joy. The figures with animal heads were having sex in every imaginable position. The little human figures at the bottom were all holding hands and dancing. It had such a feeling of fun. This is a selction of pictures as I walked round the tower.

I love this last shot. Er...just what do you think you are doing?

The other water tower showed evolution from the dinasaurs to weapons of mass destruction. And it made us sad.

Evidently this guy has studied the Kama Sutra at great length. He's quite the artist. May have to make another trip out there one of these days before someone comes along and ruins it with graffiti.

Unfortunately, the graffiti sharks have already started in places. Someone actually painted a white heart with a picture of their RV and their names, etc. inside on one section of the Love tower. There are also assorted spray-painted words on spots.

But it is AWESOME. I walked around both towers - took me a minute to catch the juxtaposition from love to war between the two. That alone made it even more powerful for me. Then I just said, "They HAVE to see these" and almost was running back down to where we were parked - saw Jean and Chris outside and hollered for them to grab cameras and COME. Jean grabbed hers and was running up - when I told her walking would be ok lol - she wasn't sure that I might have seen some animal that would be gone before she got there. Peaches was happy - our hour walk became closer to 2.

I was saddened by the graffiti found, but even the graffiti - except those folks who drew their rv - fit the artwork in most cases. And whether you like this art or not, the man who did this is extremely talented. I'm surprised I've not seen anything about this anywhere before. Feel very lucky to have stumbled upon them. Later today, I'll have my pictures from it on my blog.

It does look as tho he studied the Kama Sutra for some of those positions. Very interesting nonetheless.

These towers are a real find. Better than a gallery, free "canvas " and everyone around can enjoy the art work. Thanks for posting the pics. Linda
