Chris, that would be quite a trek to get over to see us. But I'd be happy if you did. Where will you go from Kanab?

And Karen, I just looked up the web site for the Gila Hot Springs Ranch, which houses most of the park volunteers. Although I'll certainly be coming into town weekly for groceries and the like, you'll have to come up and soak in the hot springs with me. Oh, and the Park rents horses. :D Me LOVES horses and I ride well. Uh oh ... I can see where some of my $$ is going to go.

As I mentioned, temps at the Gila Cliffs are gonna get into the teens in the fall. Luckily, the park provides propane, so you can bet I'll keep my rig nice and toasty for me and the pups (and my water lines). Otherwise I'd have to drive the MH to Silver City every week to fill up. I'm sure they have lots of hints about keeping my water hose and stand from freezing up. I already have heating tape and foam insulation for the hose, and a clamp-on light to put in the utility bay to keep everything running.

What an adventure!

Neat looking place, Janice...put it in my favorites for my next trip to NM. Reasonable camping rates too. The horseback riding looks like fun.

Yes, it's a long way and I really wouldn't be able to make it. But, the thought is there anyway. From Kanab? No idea right now. I haven't planned ahead to November yet. Plans in Jell-o, right? :D

Jell-o? Love it! Because I don't full-time, I feel the need to get my little Jell-o shots all lined up.

Turns out I'll be on the road for seven months in 2010. Getting closer to fulltiming. ;)

Janice it's all your fault that my morning coffee post didn't get posted until after 12 noon!!!

I spent I don't know how much time going over that link for the Gila Hot Springs Ranch. Working at a dude ranch is one of the things on my bucket list!!! Totally enjoyed going thru the whole web site. Awesome.

I agree ... that would be SOOOO cool. Just to clarify, I'll just be living in the RV park whilst I volunteer 4 miles up the road at Gila Cliff Dwellings monument. Not to say that won't be cool. :D

Ok Janice, just 'cause I like you so much I'm gonna share a secret with you.....and maybe a big favor. If you follow thru and things are the same, you're gonna owe me big time!! :D I met this guy on the internet a couple of years ago, e-mailed back and forth and talked on the phone several times. He's a super super nice guy, but since I'm not into horses or cold weather anymore we decided not to go any further with it. He has a trail riding business in Glenwood, not to far from where you're going to be. You just might want to check out his site and go on a trail ride while you're there.....ya never know, he might still be single, plus he's a real cutie. You can't tell much from his site, but trust me on this one. Also check out the magazine articles on the site, there's one there from a lady and I think there's pictures there. He e-mailed me a couple of him and his horse but I don't have them any more. Anyway, check it out.

You're right ... it is really close. But I'd assume that any guy young enough for you to be interested in would be waaaay too young for me. LOL. But it does look really pretty -- and wild -- there.

I think he's around 56 or 57 now....does that work? Just how old do you think I am, anyway??? And yes, I do tend to like 'em a little younger altho the current one is 3 yrs older than me. DH was 12 yrs older, so I'm thinking if I go a little younger he may last longer.

Beth here under Sparkle's name - as I was just checking the forum while she had it up.

Janice, I LOVE where you're going. You'll have a great time. And, yep, 3 months in isolation is ok. Plus, you'll make lots of friends with the other workers.

We dealt with days at Kaibab Lodge where the temp never got to 20 -25 - on those days, and the cold overnights, even with tape, just make sure to keep a faucet running slowly overnight - and make sure it's one of the faucets that goes to the grey water, and the valve is OPEN.
