Linda, Slab City is near Niland, CA, by the Salton Sea. Find I-10 (East to West) and look a little south.

Just to show it's not all sand, rocks, and cactus out here, I drove by the Salton Sea on the way back to Blythe. We used to go here when I was a kid, but the area is a lot more built up than I remember. Might be fun to pull up and camp on the beach, though - $5.00 a night. Jean and I kept thinking we were somewhere near the ocean last night, so I guess we weren't too far wrong. It also explains the seagulls.

I almost remember Salton Sea as a kid, we went to some date farm out that
direction to buy fresh dates. I do remember there being water in it, is there
still water in it or is it dried up now? I was only little, like about 5, maybe I
was just asleep in the car and dreamed it after the visit to the date farm.
But I remember little tiny ocean waves, salty foamy looking waves just
like the ocean but only about 6 inches high
