Campfire discovery

Tonight Steven and I discovered it is possible to build a pretty decent campfire in a cheap aluminum foil turkey roaster. However, it's probably not a good idea to put that roaster on a couple of 2 x 4s and build a hot fire. The hot dogs sure were delicious, though, along with the steamed veggies, homemade brownies, and lots of wine. Using everyone's favorite fancy Wal-Mart "china" made for no dishwashing, especially since we were at his rig, not mine.

Nice fire, but you can begin to see the wood underneath starting to burn. By the time we called it a night, there wasn't much left of the turkey pan.


The almost-full moon kept hiding behind heavy clouds then jumping out in full display.

Great campfire and pics, Chris! Campers always have to be resourceful, and you two were indeed! I miss having fires, but I just don't enjoy them alone. I even have a firepit on wheels on my front deck for just such fires. In days gone by, we have sat out there in the snow around a cheery fire. Sigh----time to move on, I guess.

Wouldn't have thought of that, either. Soos, I know exactly what you mean. It's sad to look at my huge deck that was built for entertaining with it's matching rockers, double swing, umbrella table, large gas grill, smoker, and hot tub - none of which gets used at all (except for this little old lady rocking away some warm evening while sipping her White Zin). I drag pieces of wood and those fake logs around in Flitter all the time, but hardly ever build a fire unless I'm enjoying it with a couple of forum gals! Yeah, I know - I'm pathetic!

Are we pathetic, Evie? Or just lonely? Or just alone? Or all of the above!

Life needs companionship of some sort, for me, anyway. I used to think I would LOVE being alone, and, for many years, I did love it. Then I got involved with making a family. I did the right thing----I taught them to become independent. We mothers always, if we do things right, put ourselves out of a job. It's 'the way of things'. Do I have to like it, NOPE! Am I proud that my kids are on their own, YOU BET! So now what is my job????

Wow! It never ceases to amaze me that someone else has the same feelings as I do...Have this house with empty bedrooms...have this yard with empty chairs & tables....Have these kids that are out on their own & too busy to visit...maybe I raised them wrong or maybe right....probably a little of both, but....it sure gets lonely & as I read, I'm not the only one that doesn't enjoy a fire unless someone is there to share it & it's always nicer to share a glass of wine with company...and of course I could go on & on...I just want to know what am I supposed to do now that it appears my job is over.....I better go find that chocolate !!!!!

When my kids go ready to graduate from college and looked/thought about where they wanted to land...my words of wisdom was to go anywhere they wanted but I would prefer someplace that I wanted to visit. Soos, yes I understand.....if we do are job right, they don't need us anymore.... we then have to find other "jobs", new things that need to be explored, created or nurtured........what of those women that never have children....we are more than our children. I think the difficult part is that this time as we try to figure out what we want to do when we grow up and the community of people we want to be with...we get to be much more creative.... Luckily I found this forum and some very remarkable women who are also very interested in continuing to explore their worlds, their ideas and future possibilities.......
