Seafood Cocktail and Sunset

Postby asirimarco » Sun Nov 29, 2009 11:27 am

Went to the pier in Kino Viejo (old Kino) yesterday aft and watched the vendor fixing seafood cocktails - The girl would open the big shells, clean out all the unwanted stuff and just leave the scallop.

Then she would flush it with water until it look clean. Then chop the scallop into pieces right in the shell half. Then she opened a clam and cleaned it then chopped it and added it to the big shell.

Lots of lime juice and some other stuff and of course hot sauce.

Not my cup of tea - but people were gobbling them up.
Driving into Kino Nuevo (new Kino) we are staying at the very end - way around the corner.
Image
Went over to the boat ramp to watch the sunset before dinner. Some shots.

After this the wind picked up - lots of blowing sand. Drove around at night - mostly deserted street. Very few cars out and most of the homes are vacation spots so most were empty. Just had the blowing sand for company.

I'd pass on the scallops, too.
I was amazed that, when I was in Sonora, how many people eat seafood. I suppose they would with the ocean so near, but I stayed further down the coast in Alamos and didn't consider the ocean being that nearby.
Wow, great pictures, Carol! Hope the sand quit blowing. That gets old after a while.
Stay safe!

Lots and lots of sea food, a truck comes through the campground every day selling fresh? fish and shrimp. And it flies off his truck.
Most RVers we talk to love the fresh shrimp - neither Bill nor I are fond of it so haven't tried any yet. Though I did have fish for dinner last night Breaded and deep fried. Yum.
Isn't Alamos neat?

I love your pictures! And, scallops are delicious. I've never had them fixed that way but need to try that soon. Oysters? Yummy. Shrimp? Love them. Mussels? Great stuff. Any kind of seafood? Yep, probably everything except for mackerel sushi. IMHO, that just tastes gross. But any other kind of sushi disappears quickly around me.

Someday I've got to get somewhere below Ensenada and see the "real" Baja. Looks like you're having a wonderful trip already. :D

Carol, we were still living in Alaska and our neighbor's wife was from Alamos and she was going back for the music festival and invited us as she still had a home there as well. We flew to Phoenix and drove down. It was great fun and her family from Obergon and Hermosillo (?sp) showed up and held a huge bbq in our honor. We spent several nights in San Carlos, too. Lots of snowbirds there!

Gorgeous pictures - especially the sunsets! And it's all yours! I like seafood a lot, but I want mine cooked. Can't get any fresher than what you can get, though!
