Down By the River

Took the dogs for their morning walk down by the river and saw a Big white Heron. Gave me a chance to play with a new free photo program to crop and enlarge. Frankly, before being around Birdie I would have just called this a Big White Bird.

Thankfully most of the weekend people with all the dogs and kids have pulled out and peace and quiet have returned. Once again on Friday night they had a REALLY LOUD live band that quit, thank God, at 10pm. I'm two "blocks" away and couldn't even hear my TV with the windows closed. If there was another park that has the open space that this one has in Kerrville I would have packed up and left. You can't talk to Don, the manager, cause he's right there drinking at the bar with the rest of the partiers. One couple from Iowa pulled out and went down to By the River park, said they had no interest in staying in a bar parking lot. At least its only one night a week. This park seems to have lost a lot of the winter Texans that normally come here since he took over management.

Since I've kept the guys pretty close to home the last few days think I'll take them for another long walk to the river. I was a good girl and got on the treadmill for 30 minutes this morning.

If you can't beat 'em Karen, join them! Get yourself down to the bar, knock back a few (soda's that is) and listen to the music.
Great photos of Big White Bird. Reminds me of what Beth does, she runs up to me, shows me a brown blob on a branch and asks me what I think it is! Brown Blob on a Branch!

Karen, I thought about you this morning, reading RV Lifestyle on rv.net. They were discussing travels to Nova Scotia, routes and points of interest. Might be something of interest for you. I enjoyed your pictures. I agree with Sparkle, if you can't beat them, join them.

Ah, Karen. Your heron pictures make me want to rush right out and buy a telephoto lens for my camera. Absolutely beautiful!

Nice pics.

And I don't show Sparkle most of my bird pics anymore cuz she makes fun of me. But I did correct her on the type of woodpecker that's been pecking at us :)

I thought I was taking another morning dove pic today - but still haven't figured out for sure what it is. Sure is fun taking the pics tho. And the other day I got a bird that doesn't have a common name - what a pain - having to spell Phainopepla for the blog ... ha, if you want to see it - you have to go there.

Good work, Karen - and yeah, Birdy is good at getting us noticing birds. (I'm sure birdbybird would do the same if I met her.)

You guys are right - I should go join them and probably would if they had music that I liked, country western or 50's or big band. The stuff they play is just loud - no melody you can hear and the singer sounded like he was just shouting, not singing. I actually did walk over to see if it was better up close - NOT.

Don't have a telephoto lens. Use the zoom on my Kodak Easyshare and then crop and enlarge on a photo editing program. Easy once you get the hang of it. I'm trying out a free editing program called Sherif. Easy IF you read the instructions first.

Before Birdie I was of the "brown blob on a branch" school. Herons are easy. I still have problems with all the cute little brownish birds.
