i think any of us could check with our local rescue and unfortunately find some very similar stories.....Dogs left in apts or in foreclosure homes...sometimes found in time, sometimes not. Animals left tied in the yard and found by neighbors later when no one comes back for them..... Animals just dropped in front of vet clinics, because someone thinks that the employees love animals and will figure something out...... Hug your pups and say a prayer for the less fortunate out there....

The end of the story as far as we are concerned. Animal rescue came. She had treats and by the time we left she was still trying to make friends with the dog. Beth and John, another concerned citizan talking the the rescue lady.

I took a picture of the door, hoping you could read what it says, but it's a bit small. It says, Building a better community for people and pets.

What a wonderful location to spend almost two weeks!
So sad about the dog. Hopefully he will get a good home.

I just heard on the news that a town in OH is having to euthanize up to 600 pets a month from people abandoning them on their doorstep, mostly because of the economy. Poor darlings.

I have been broke at times in my life, to the point I found myself seriously thinking about shoplifting 2 plums - my mouth was watering and I couldn't afford them. But NEVER have I got rid of a pet. It didn't even enter my head - I might have bought cheaper dog food, but that was as far as it went. I hate it when I hear someone say they are pregnant - have to get rid of the cat! To my mind they would be as well saying, oh I'm pregnant, have to get rid of the first child!

My mother has a cat, Katie, whom she dearly loves. Sometimes Katie accidentally scratches her with very sharp claws. That's where Band-Aids and ointment come in handy. The other day one of my mom's "friends" saw the latest scratch and had the nerve to ask if she was going to "put the cat down." I'm picturing my 84-yr-old mother standing there with her jaw dropping, amazed and completely astonished at what the woman had asked.

When I was expecting my first child years ago, someone inquired of my father what I planned to do with my dog after the baby came...as in how I would get rid of it...my father's response (as he told me later) was, "You don't know my daughter very well!" He knew exactly where that dog was staying.....

Evan as we left we were planning to go back. In the Spring some year when the flowers are blooming, but before it gets too hot. We found a great park with full hookups, pools, activities for 400.00 a month. I can handle that once a year or so. But the boondocking was great too.
