Glamis Beach

I drove through this area on the way back to Blythe, CA this morning - Glamis Dunes, on Hwy 78 between Brawley and Blythe. The pictures are kind of weird because you can't park on the side of the road here so I just pointed the camera and clicked the button. However, perhaps the pics show a little of the "beach" area. It's kind of like a regular little town - Glamis Beach - where all the RVs are parked. Of course, it's also about 180 miles or so from a real beach.

Now try the pictures. They should be visible now.

Good grief!! That first pic sure does look desolate and stark! I'm sure glad to have seen that vehicle in front of you.

The last time I saw a desert like that I was 12yrs old. On my way home from CA. My brother had just gotten discharged from the AF and there were 5 of us me, bro, sl & his 2 kids under the age of 4 in his car on the way back to NY. What a trip from he77 that was. Youngest was my niece who was only about a month old. OMG, never ever want to experience a trip like that again!!!!

Wow - very cool pictures! So, what's in the area to attract all those RVs?

Yep, they're all boondocking in the sand. The draw is the miles and miles of sand for off-road dune buggies. Most of the RVs are either toy haulers or tow the sand vehicles.

Oh, yeah. Sharon and Donna have both spent a lot of time there. In fact, I think Donna has spent Thanksgivings there.

We boondock out on BLM land at Quartzsite AZ (wow spell check sure didn't like anything there) and part of the reason to go to the desert is the cost it used to be free or a $1.00 now it's up to $180 for the 'season' which is from Sept 15 to April 15
I don't think that area would be to my liking though

Wow, I thought it would be free too. What if you only want to stay a few days?

some areas are free but you have to move every 14 days....the area we stay in is considered long term and you don't have to move till the season is over and you can pay a small fee and stay in long term for periods of time....it's like 40.00 for 14 days why you would do that if you can stay free in other areas??? so you can be close to friends I guess...
