A Little Internet Tip

..

Here's a tip some of you may not know about...I use it all the time. Although I always use Google, this morning, I tested with Bing, Ask, Dogpile. They all work, but I personally feel Google delivers the best results.

To find a quick definition or spelling of a word or term, go to your favorite search engine (as I just said, mine is Google). Type the word DEFINE and then add the term you're looking for. Like the other day, I went to Google, typed in define soft shell turtle.

Also, if you don't know how to exactly spell a word, do the same thing with YOUR spelling - DEFINE XXXXX. The proper spelling will pop up (in Google, if I type in CORWN, it will ask me if I mean CROWN. I don't know if it's that way in other engines.).

Hope some of you find this as useful as I do.

I love Google searches. For years, though, Yahoo delivered a more complete search for my name, for instance. However, I just googled myself a minute ago, and voila! "I" was delivered in all my glory -- from news stories in which I was quoted to a news story that I wrote as a reporter, reprinted on a corporate web site. And since it's all about ME (   ) I now vote for Google.

Having said that, I decided a few weeks ago to try Google's new browser, Google Chrome. Since then I have been turning the air blue (!%&#$@!!!) because my computer started crashing, failing to load and other bad stuff. Uninstalled yesterday, and everything is humming. Just sayin' ...

Here is one for cell phones.

I will give you another example of using a cell phones especially if you have unlimited texting.
Go to Message, In the To type: 466453
This is the text number for Goggle.
Then in the message type: weather boston and send
You will get the weather for Boston.Obviously you can substitute your destination instead of Boston

Other questions or queries:

define word
directions pasadena ca to 94043 (substitute your info)
questions such as abraham lincoln's birthday.
time Montreal Canada (if you don't know the timezone)
map 5th avenue new york
Airlines - united airlines
translate hello in french

There is also a service called CHACHA in the To field for the message type: 242242
And you can ask up to 3 questions a day. You will get the answer back in usually less than 30 seconds.

I've just been going to dictionary.com to find spellings/definitions. It even has sound so you can hear how the word is pronounced etc.

As for Google. I've downloaded something that gave me google search on my toolbar, which I don't recall giving the ok for, but found I did like it. Then out of the blue, again, I find I have yet a second google search area on my toolbar. I haven't a clue how to get rid of the second one. I've tried and tried but to no avail. It just irritates the snot out of me when that happens!!

I type the word "definition" and the word I seek either on the URL line or in the Google toolbar box ... up comes a list of dictionary web sites, all tuned in to the word in question.

Lenora, try right clicking up on your toolbar and see if a list pops open that you can click tool things on and off...

Lenora: There should be an "add/remove" that might let you get rid of that. I think it is in your control panel.

Thanks, I'll give that a 'look see', although I'm not sure what it would be under to find it. It probably would have google in the title and I do like my google toolbar so don't want to mess with accidently deleting that. ;)
