Update

Postby snowball » Tue Nov 17, 2009 10:48 pm

I was reminded that I haven't done a update on my husband's
cancer treatment
We are down to the last week of the external beam radiation
he takes a pill which has a side effect of fatigue and one of the side effect of the
radiation is fatigue which means he is tired a lot....some days he has lots of
energy feels well and up to doing things the next day he is down tired not feeling well
so we do our days day by day
Next week he has off then on the 30 of November goes in for his Brachytherapy which is a
treatment set up to zap high dose radiation into the prostrate this sounds really painful to me
there are 18 rods that are put into the prostrate with the radiation directed through them he will
have 3 treatments in about a 24 hour period and this is a over night stay at the hospital
they aren't removed while in the hospital and can move about very little
the dr. mentioned a spinal block
once this is over and he feels up to it we can leave and go on down to Quartzsite
As we were reading the information on the treatments for prostate cancer this one sounded like it
had the least side effects we are hoping so. Its not been a walk in the park but it's not been that bad
either...So says me how hasn't gone through it right?
When will we know if it's successful I know not...when the first psa is low maybe?
thanks for the reminder Jean
I do appreciate all of your well wishes over the past few months

Oh Sheila and Larry, I am so glad the treatments are nearly over and pray that the outcome is wonderful. It is such a big marker in your lives that your conversations will probably be, Before the Cancer and After the Cancer. We all wish you both many, many healthy happy years AFTER. :)

Sheila, I'm glad the treatment is almost over, for both of your sakes, and that the process has been not quite as bad as you anticipated.
His next PSA is going to be, say, .00000000000002!!! :)

Sheila, thoughts, prayers and fingers crossed for a good outcome. I know several guys that have had various treatments for prostate cancer and all are alive and well, so hope that helps. Prostate is the most treatable form of cancer there is. Give Larry a big hug from me and we'll see you in January.

Thanks so much for the update. Glad Jean asked - didn't want to bother you - but wanted to know! I'm glad the worst side effect so far seems to be tiredness. That's no fun, but much easier to handle than nausea or pain. And of course, only the best thoughts and hopes that his count keeps going down.

I don't know which treatment my bil had - but his count has been down for 2 years now - and hopefully it's a forever down! I wish the same for Larry.

I know you are looking forward to Quartzite - so isn't it nice that both you and Larry have that to look forward to at the end of these treatments.

thanks for the update.
I'm glad things have been going OK and the treatments are almost over. The one where he stays in the hospital doesn't sound fun. I'd suggest a portable DVD player and several movies - laying still for days will get really boring and he probably won't feel like reading.
Take care !
