"Just a Dog"

"Just a Dog"

Postby Bethers » Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:31 pm

From time to time, people tell me,
"lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or "that's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent,
or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog,:
but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness,
the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you too, think it's "just a dog,"
then you won't understand phrases like
"just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship,
trust and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience
that makes me a better person.

Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks
and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future,
the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me
and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog"
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog," just smile,
because they "just don't understand!"

So true. When Dave died I thought I'd never smile again, let alone laugh. But the first time I laughed it was something that clown Bogie did, and it felt good.

Maggie, was my husbands dog and she actually was my life line when he died. I never want to hear from anyone she is "just a dog". That article is so true, thanks for posting it Beth. It says most everything there is to say, about those of us, who have our little buddies who go everywhere and do most everything with us.

Safe and Happy travels,
Carol

Don't understand how anyone can go through life without a dog (or cat). They are my true loves.

How true that is!

Sammie is the best traveling companion. Never a complaint, always ready to greet me when I've left her alone for a while.

Love her dearly.

Beth, I don't think any one of us can deny anything that write-up said. We all, for sure, adore our furbabies!
Today my little Choco ran right up to Little Missy and jumped in before I even got the steps down! He sure took to liking RVing right after his first campout at the state park and he had saw he had acres and acres to explore. I know I'm sure relieved that he took to it! :P

A dog is as close to unconditional love as you can get, I think. I read somewhere that the reason it's so horribly painful to lose them is because there isn't all the emotional baggage attached to them that there is with a human relationship. It's so pure.

Jed is my soul mate. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Our "Fur Kids' are Unconditional Love..that continues and continues... I have many articles regarding our critters..and each time something happens I kind of take a peek and re read them... Each time I get a lump in my throat... it never changes nor ceases to amaze me..

Thank God, for those "Critters".. Now if only Humans to could follow their lead !

God Bless
