Persistence Paid Off!

Postby Forestgal » Fri Oct 30, 2009 7:18 pm

After really struggling with the insurance company over my claim for Jed's poisoning, I've finally gotten a settlement figure. They're going to pay the maximum for Jed's long-term care. My actual expenses for Jed, which included 2 nights' hotel stay, came to ~$8700. I'd included in my statement small expenses for food, gas & mileage, (about $150) which they didn't even discuss. That's okay. Add to the $8700 another $2064 which is the estimate for his long-term care & we're at ~$10,771. They're going to pay ~$10,950. That includes my net per diem rate for the day I had to take off.

I'd say that I'm pretty happy with this. :)

The company's mailing me a release, which I ought to have by the end of next week.

While it will never give me back the past 4 weeks, it'll take care of the real bills and give me a bit of savings for anything that might come up in the next few months with Jed, which according to the vet, is about a 15% probability. He's had absolutely no issues since coming home.

This chapter of the nightmare is almost over.

Thanks for your support, everyone.

Good deal, Laura! And glad our Jed is doing ok.

that is good news, I would worry his long term care could exceed the limit
they gave you and I will pray that it doesn't. Total relief they paid what they
did and that Jed is recooperating nicely.

Believe me, they're thrilled that you settled for this - as they know there can still be more bills in the future. Good job on your part not letting them make you settle for less - and I hope that park fires the manager that caused all this heartache.

Laura, am so glad for you. Am even happier to hear that Jed is his old self. It is scary how much they mean to us, isn't it?

That's terrific, Laura. While no amount of money can really compensate for what you and Jed had to go thru, it's wonderful that you don't have to worry about paying the bill for it. Looking forward to hearing of good adventures from you and Jed. :D carold
