1890 Days

Postby Liz » Mon Oct 26, 2009 7:28 am

I spent all day Saturday in the historic town of McIntosh helping with the annual 1890 Days Festival. Vendors were set up well before dawn and when I got there at 7:15, parked cars were already lining the highway and shoppers filling the streets. Skies were cloudy, but the rain held off all day.

I spent most of the day as hostess at open house at my church, part of the historical tour.

And helping a little with gospel face painting.

Gospel magic and Bible stories were taking place inside.

And music in between

But before things got busy at church, I took a walk around town. Here are a few highlights.
Lots of arts and crafts for sale

Oh Karen, this one’s for you. Sorry I couldn’t carry it. Belle would have loved it here.

Saw lots of fur kids

There was music in the park

And food

By Sunday morning there was little sign that anything big had happened here. Everyone does a great job of cleaning up.

Thank you Liz for the great post and pictures. I love your little church, to me it is how a proper church should look. I'm not one for all the big fancy places somehow I think it would be easier to find a peaceful feeling in a beautiful place.
Also loved the pink house with white trim!!

The pink house was the old hotel and was owned by a member of our church, Betty. Her sister Helen lived with her and brother Happy not far away. They were all born in Scotland so sounded a lot like Sparkle. A great family, all gone now....Helen died this summer at age 103. They used to dress in period costume during 1890 days and sit on that porch. A banner with their Scottish pattern hung above the door. The hotel has since been sold and a couple live there.

Always fun, wish I could have been there. The picture of Happy, Betty and Helen, is really a good one of all of them. Brought back memories, good ones.
Sounds like you were really busy, especially liked your partner, taller then you, but both in pink

Safe and Happy travels

Thanks for sharing Liz. Neat trees with the moss hanging from them. Liked the crafts, especially the glass and vases with feet. Always enjoy pictures of older buildings and homes. We have lost so much of the craftsmanship that was.
