Diets for Dogs

Yes Sharon, canned pumpkin but be sure you get plain not the pie pumpkin with spices added. Winnie is around 14 pounds and I give her a teaspoon twice a day. Mine will lick from a spoon but you can mix it with food. Lots of good vitamins also in pumpkin. If worried about canned they do have organic but the plain, I buy Libby's brand doesn't have anything but pumpkin. Read the label as I did find one store brand that had something else added.

Haven't been to the store yet, (it's snowing here) but Bogie seems to have settled down to his reduced diet. He actually ran a few yards yesterday. I had heard about giving dogs pumpkin, but I can't remember why.

I didn't mean to imply anything regarding Chewy's relationships... But I figured that if he knew about the diet idea ahead of time..... it might effect his attitude.... But then come to think about it, I don't think I've ever had a dog get grumpy when I've had to cut back on the kibble..... just think if people would adjust as well! The Twins say, "Hi!"

The vet is gonna be so impressed!

I thought Roe's vet would be impressed at how svelt Roe was after hiking all over Alaska and losing 11 lbs. Instead, he was alarmed and thought he must be sick. Even though he said Roe is now at his ideal weight. Go figure. He sure doesn't act sick. He acted sick when he was 11 lbs overweight.

my boston eats grapes (if I bite them first so she can taste the sweetness) and almonds... also gotta bite them in two... so she won't choke on them. How's that for healthy doggie food,,, oh, and she loves bananas! She's such a beggar! I guess whoever had her before I rescued her musta fed her from the table,, and leave it to my parents to continue the process!

I have heard that grapes & raisins can be toxic to dogs. Might want to investigate that.

Oh, thanks. Liz.. I will look into that. Did notice that she had a bit o diarrhea this morning.. perhaps from the grapes!

I just wish she wouldn't beg so! ! ! I have a hard time telling her no !

What about the almonds?

Not sure about almonds, but found this statement on a website: "One type of human food that should not be fed to dogs and cats is nuts. Walnuts and macadamia nuts are especially toxic, with symptoms ranging from vomiting to paralysis to death."
