Winterization

Postby kelpie » Fri Oct 16, 2009 5:48 pm

Okay, ladies, I know I probably asked the same questions last year stuff, turn on the pump and let if flow til I can see pink coming out of each faucet, won't that make sure it won't freeze? I don't have a compressor and really would like to handle this on my own. I am also going to put in one of those bypass thingys on the water heater. Experiences, please?

I'm clueless as to how to do this myself so I'm taking my rig in to have it done. $62 and they also check all chalked seams/roof and water lines.

Kelli...remember you have to drain the hot water heater and turn the pipes to the by-pass or you're going to use 6 gallons or more of anti-freeze just for the water heater.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Kelli,
Karen (RetiredHappy) and I (Birdie-Nancy) decided that we should tell you about how to winterize your rig. The FASTEST way is to head South, young lady!!!! That will fix the process more rapidly than anything else you can do :!:

That's what i was going to do too,.... ended up saving the $62 but will probably cost me a lot more in the long run! I have to laugh or i'd cry.

I like the idea of having all the seams and roof inspected before winter's snow here. So all joking aside, it's a good investment for me and i'll continue to do it that way when i get my new rig. Going south isn't an option for me for several reasons. But that's ok,... I know I'm right where I'm supposed to be. :D

I'm the poster child for having roof inspected before winter. Snowmelt crept into the ceiling and walls of my last rig ... in the spring water was running out the bottom of the windows. Heartbreaking. I'm having my roof resealed as we speak ... and it'll go under cover after I get back from my upcoming trip to the NW.
