Would anyone like some Kansas rain?

The Verdigris River flows right by this campground, protected a little by a dike. It was the one that flooded two years ago and pretty much destroyed this area of the city. Of course, the flood was also combined with an oil spill from the refinery. Right now California sounds so nice . . . :( We're watching the slough that runs next to the street by our sites.

It's been raining heavily since last night.

THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR
THE VERDIGRIS RIVER AT INDEPENDENCE.
* FROM THIS EVENING TO SUNDAY MORNING...OR UNTIL THE WARNING IS
CANCELED.
* AT 3:00 PM THURSDAY THE STAGE WAS 22.3 FEET.
* MINOR FLOODING IS FORECAST.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 30.0 FEET.
* FORECAST...FLOOD STAGE WILL BE REACHED BY THIS EVENING. THE RIVER
WILL CREST NEAR 41.0 FEET BY FRIDAY EVENING. THE RIVER WILL FALL
BELOW FLOOD STAGE BY SATURDAY EVENING.
* IMPACT...AT 45.0 FEET...OVERFLOWS BEGIN ON HIGHWAY 160 JUST EAST OF
INDEPENDENCE AND ON HIGHWAY 75 NORTH OF INDEPENDENCE. THE
RAILROAD, EAST TOWARDS PARSONS FLOODS.

Oh NO! This makes our measly 4.5 inches of rain in a week seem like nothing!

PLEASE, please, be careful, as I am sure you all are doing, and let us know what's happening if you are able to connect to the internet. This fall's rainy weather in the east has been crazy this year.....not a normal happening. That forecast is a HUGE amount over flood level-----I am hoping you are all ready to flee, if necessary?

I will be thinking of you overnight and into tomorrow, and pray that the rain will STOP. This is very scary. Will look for a post from you tomorrow, if possible, to let us know how you are doing.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Oh Chris! you know we would take some of that rain on the West coast if we could! No floods here since 1997, seems like a life ago, actually it was! Hope all goes well through the night. Take care!

Be careful and keep a watchful eye on the water. They're predicting 3 to 5 inches of rain here tonight. Its so humid here that I'm so ready to go back to New Mexico. Why did my daughter have to end up living in Texas??????

Sure hope it dries up for you soon. And that the flooding, if the river continues to rise, doesn't catch you.
It has rained here in Indiana 25 out of the last 31 days. About sick of it. Farmers are having hard time harvesting as fields are flooded and crops wet. Luckily we are up on top of a hill so it just runs away from us. but can't go out in yard just sink in.
Enough already!

BE CAREFUL and be safe. Keep us informed. So far, FL has been hot and humid, but the rainfall not severe. carold
