Will I NEVER live this down??? Hoo-boy, here we go again. I thought this was high tide.


WRONG! This was high tide. I was standing inside my rig taking this photo. I hitched up my truck just in case I floated away in the middle of the night. Which I slept through, by the way.


Then of course I had to try and get out. Got bogged down and when I unhitched it went SPROIIIING!


Now in my defence. There was a very bad storm out at sea and an abnormaly high tide.
Bt the way when you call Good Sam in situations like this they tell you, Ma'am, we don't do beaches!

Sparkle, you will never live that one down. But, now I always think twice--at least--before parking anywhere near a beach. So, it was probably a good lesson, even though an expensive one for you. So, you really did it on purpose, right? Sorry about that. Are you still at the North Rim?

It's beginning to get chillier here in Coffeyville, KS. Me, who never wears slippers, finally ordered some shearling ones from Sierra Trading Post and absolutely love them! It would be fun to wear them to work but can't, so they feel so wonderful after a ten-hour night of standing. It's hard to take them off.

We'll be working here until Dec. 23, and I learned my lesson last winter about preparing for very cold weather. So, have made simple window shades using some great 4-layer fabric from Fabric Depot in Portland, OR and lots of Velcro. http://www.fabricdepot.com/index.php?pa ... geid=14483

Some of us are also getting bales of hay from a local co-op, sticking them into heavy-duty plastic bags, and sticking them around our rigs to keep it warmer on the inside and keep things from freezing. Need to get some of that water hose wrap as well. I've got two electric space heaters that work well in this small rig as well as some nice small electric appliances. Since it's necessary to unhook and drive across the street for propane, I'm using as little as possible.

Chris, do you have a condensation problem inside your RV in the winter?

I know when 3 women went in my little 16' trailer to Montana and Alberta in May '08, we had a terrible problem, to the point I thought the trailer was leaking somewhere...

I didn't last year - knock on wood. However, I'm pretty sure this little rig isn't airtight, either. We'll see what happens with more weatherproofing this winter.

We had terrible storms all night. Pinecones were plunking on my roof. Luckily the temps were high enough that it didn't snow. Every morning Bogie the Pit crosses the road and goes into the Forest to do his thing. This morning he headed down the road before crossing. On the way back a huge Pine tree broke in half and came crashing down, right where we normally would have been walking. Wise dog!

Wow, I was wondering why this thread surfaced again. Fun to revisit Sparkle's soggy adventure. On to electric heating tape ....

You can get it at Home Depot. I use this when I'm camped for a significant period of time. Otherwise, I just disconnect the water hose and use my water pump at night.

BUT, if you're camped for a while, just wrap the tape around your water hose (and possibly the faucet itself) and then insulate it. I use that foam pipe insulation (also available at HD). If you're hooked up to sewer, open the grey tank valve and run a small trickle of water overnight. If you do that, make sure you don't have a "low spot" in your sewer hose. Make sure it drains correctly.
