New laminate floor ...

Postby Getupngo » Thu Oct 01, 2009 4:46 pm

I DID IT!! I'm doing the Snoopy Dance!

I had my stained, seafoam-green carpet pulled up, and wood-laminate flooring installed in my rig. I just went to look at it -- it's GORGEOUS (and me, with my iPhone, forgot to take a picture!). The new floor matches my oak woodwork perfectly. La! La! La! I'm going area-rug shopping. ;)

Because I have a gasser that can get pretty hot around the doghouse and floorboards when I'm driving on a hot day, I had them begin the new flooring just behind the captain's and passenger's chairs. The new floor runs all the way through the bathroom to the bedroom.

To see if the flooring will swell and buckle if it gets wet, I put a sample piece in a sink of water and it completely repelled the moisture. And it's so strong you can't even scratch the surface with a key.

The rig is still in the shop because I'm also having the roof re-sealed, windshields replaced (yes, both are cracked) and the big-slide seal replaced. And yes, I'll be writing a BIG check.

When I bring it home, it will be gorgeous. I'll just WANT to go somewhere and show it off. LOL.

Anyway, I'll post pictures when I get them.

Janice, that sounds absolutely gorgeous!! Not fair making us wait for pictures, though. Boogie on over to the TN GTG and show her off. :D

Sounds fantastic! what brand is that new flooring that can't be scratched? I'm considering doing both bedrooms in this house... the carpet is ancient and I think the new floors would add to the sale value.

That engineered laminate is like iron. I can't remember the brand. But I'd be interested in heading to the Quartzite GTG. That's close to home and driving the right direction (south!).

ohhhhhh, I'm so jealous, when the a/c guy was here, I asked him about doing my
floor next year, and he looked at the area where the slide comes together, and
said no, it couldn't be done, only carpet, but, I'm gonna ask around and get other
opinions cause I know others that have done it. I can hardly wait for pictures, I'm
so excited for you!

I am sure you will enjoy your new floor. Last summer my sweetie ripped out all the carpet and put in wood laminate. We love it! The only thing we have to do is fold up the area rug when we travel because otherwise it is like an ice skating rink when you are driving down the road and wanting to walk to use the bathroom or make something to eat. Enjoy your new floor!

congratulations on your new floor. I have laminate flooring throughout my stick house and just love it. So easy to pick up dog hair with the dry swifter -- love that product.

Ava it may be how your slides go in that might create a problem but then I'm not sure why it would second opinion is a good idea

Good for you on the new flooring, Janice. I've got a laminate downstairs and love it too. With Jed traipsing in and out you'd never know a 70# Lab lives here.

While I don't have laminate in my trailer, I do have linoleum. I went to IKEA and bought some of their $4 throw rugs and LOVE them! They're super-easy to wash and do just what I want them too. No rubber backing, which is fine for me. I've been told to stay away from that with my laminate floor I think ... can't really remember. Anyway, it's a thought.

Congrats!

Sheila, I honestly don't know why they PUT carpet in RVs. Gets so soiled. If you're camping, there's just -- DIRT -- out there. I had them put thick rubber treads on my entry stairs instead of the wood. I could just see me going out in my socks to let the dogs out and doing a whoop-de-doo down the stairs. Not like THAT hasn't happened before. And it will help my elderly dogs get in and out.

Ava, I've also heard that you need to be careful putting wood floors under some slides. Some slides actually roll over the flooring -- but mine is on a track that just moves back and forth. Do you get roll marks on your carpet?

I didn't think of IKEA for the area rugs. I'll dash over there and take a look. Oh, what fun I'll have! I think I'll also have to get some nice thick socks to wear so my ankles don't get cold. But my heart will be warm. LOL.

Janice, I don't have any roll marks on the carpet, but I remember him saying
something about the fact that my slide and the other floor go flush together.
There is this big metal strip and the carpet on the slide part covers it. He
said some slides sit a little on top and they can put a trim piece but mine
goes out and then down to sit flush. I'm going to get other opinions too but
its also something thats a year away from happening anyway so I have plenty
of time. I'll have to get some batteries for the camera and get some pictures
of this metal strip.

I bet you'll be really happy with the choice. Makes things look bigger doesn't it?
We put Allure - a "wood look vinyl" got it at Home Depot in Jennie - a couple people commented on how nice the hard wood looked - they had to get down and touch it to believe it was vinyl. it looks great and is super easy to keep clean.
It sure looks nicer then the carpet.

Janice - You go girl!! I bet that laminate looks great. Waiting to see pix.

I just did my whole stick house flooring in laminate - it took a week and it was just like moving. I'm still getting used to it because I had white carpet throughout and after 10 yrs. and two doggies, it was looking pretty sad in spots. AND, I'm still looking for area rugs - that almost seems to be harder than picking the whole flooring. LOL And, expensive - YIKES!!

When the dogs are running on the laminate, their little nails make a noise and I think it scared them at first. I just laugh. I wouldn't want them to slide across the floor and get hurt so I need to hurry and get those area rugs. When it's their nap time, the also pick a rug to sleep on.

ENJOY your new MH. Now you don't have to look at new ones. Oh, my MH is just about 3 yrs old and the 1 piece windshield has been replaced 2 times because of rocks hitting while traveling. Good thing I have the glass coverage on my ins. policy. Those windshields are $2500, they are HUGE and it takes almost a whole day to replace !!

Without those pesky carpets, you will have clean floors all the time!!
