From the Beach to the Desert

Or I should say from 85 to 110! Spent 5 days at Doheny State Beach, 20th thru the 25th, came home, parked Hope, hopped in the truck and headed for Johnson Valley to do some wheeling with the BF. Beautiful at the beach, spent the days sitting and jawing with my jeep club GF's and soaking up the sun. One of the gals and I walked every morning, and 1 morning we all walked over to the harbor for coffee and rolls. Thurs we walked over to the harbor for breakfast and then walked back over that evening for clam chowder at Turks. We have it planned out that 1 MH cooks for everyone every nite, so you only have to cook 1 nite. It works out great. This year I made Beth's beef and peppers on ciabatta rolls and made a pan of mac and cheese to go with it. Everyone loved it! Thanks Beth!! Only 6 rigs and 11 people this year, so it was easy. If there's more than that we double up and share the cooking duties. I was actually the only one there by myself, but it was an easy dinner. Some of the gals double up in the rigs, so they had 2 to cook. I only had to make a salad last year, so figured I would suck it up and cook this year. Anyway, some pictures for you!

My campsite...I had a street site this year, but just across from the beach and the other rigs were almost across from me and one next to me.



This is where I was last year, beach site. In Aug the cost went from 35 to 60 dollars for a beach site, but we booked in March and got the 35 rate. 2 of friends rigs:

Then it was on to Johnson Valley where the temps were around 110. Didn't take any pictures of the canyon we went up, but after some heavy duty rock crawling we took a sightseeing trip up Fletchers trail to get some photos:

BF's new toy trailer, sure was nice! His old one was a '90 Alpha, one of the first toy trailers...worked well, but was pretty well used and not as comfy as this one! Chewy scrounging for throw outs in the bottom right:

Looks like you had a grand tie. The beach so inviting and the desert the same, but in a different way. The rock crawling sounds interesting, although I have only seen pictures. It seems like a good way to enjoy the desert. Thanks for sharing. Linda

Where is Doheny State Beach?? Looks like you all had a grand time. Loved your pix especially the guy you WEREN'T taking the pic of (LOL) and the pelican. Where did you go climbing? Now, that looks VERY adventureous. YIKES!

Linda (Rufflesgirl) I'm down near Hemet, Pooker (Evie) is in Riverside. Doheny State Beach is just south of San Juan Capistrano. Johnson Valley where we jeep is just north of Landers off the 247, and south of Lucerne Valley, about 90 miles from me. DH and I used to camp at Pismo every once in a while, take the jeep and go duning. Kids still go every year and take their sand toys. I love it here, we've got everything close....beach, mountains, desert and sand dunes!

Those jeeps all caught up in the boulders looks like allot of work to me! lol I guess it's fun getting them wedged and then fun winching the out. Great pictures, Sharon. Love the beach best. I'd love to be sitting there on the shore soaking up the sun right now. Thanks for sharing!

really enjoyed your pictures "Sharon...we rented atv's at Q our first year there and thought we were adventureus we were so wrong after looking at those pictures!!! looked like you had fun would love to enjoy the beach that was neat as well

Beth, Vickie's right, was referring to my late DH. You'll be the first to know if there's anything different going on...but don't hold your breath!! LOL!

Yes Vickie, the jeep fits in the TH. Had a devil of a time finding one that he could put Rambo in w/o letting the air out of the tires. Those are 37" tires and not sure what the lift kit is. I know my knee is hitting me in the mouth when I haul my butt in, tho. He had to let all of the air out of the tires, put air bags on the jeep to get it in his alpha. Plus he had to put another axle under the trailer. This one came with the 3 axles, we took the back couch out and were able to leave the back bed in and Rambo clears with 2" to spare. Plus this one has a 5000 Onan genny...Alpha didn't have a genny so he had to haul one in the back of the Alpha after he put the jeep in. He's really happy with it and I love the kitchen space and comfy chairs.

Holy Cow!

Gimmee the beach, but scrap the rock climbs in jeeps! I would totally panic at those angles on those cliffs! My son, however, would go gaga to do that! I will NOT let him see those pics! He tries to do such feats with our Isuzu Sidekick right here on the property!
