ali1257 her trip plans...

Okay I am posting here and I am sure Alice will not mind....since we are friends IRL. this is the shorthand version...I will let her eventually share the details.

As you know they had a big 2 month road trip planned. WE had a great dinner with them last Friday. Then about 8 pm on Saturday they were on the road. They safely made it to their son's in Lewiston, Idaho. The MH was acting up and they replaced the fuel filter and then hit the road to Montana. Then the MH started acting up and actually died..on them. They had it towed...fuel pump replaced..and were on the road again headed east. Tonight up date, they must be still having issues as they are staying in Alder, MT and then will turning around and headed back home. They should be home in about 5-6 days...depending on how things go.

I sure hope they get home safely and without any more MH trouble. Will keep them in my prayers for a good trip home.

What a shame. Sure hope they can get it fixed once and for all. You can't enjoy a trip when your always wondering if something else is going to go wrong.
Tell them good luck and take care

Nothing is more frustrating than having rv troubles in the midst of a trip. Praying they make it safely back and can get all the issues resolved.

For what it's worth:

We went through 3 fuel pumps on one of our motorhomes within one year. It seems most of the repair facilities purchase their parts from the same supplier and the "new" pump is often a rebuilt one or not original quality parts. After the fourth failure, we took the rig to a Ford truck dealership (our rig had a Ford engine, but it would be the same deal if it were a Chevy, etc). It wasn't easy finding a dealership that also did repairs on the trucks, but we found one right near home. We had always heard that it was more expensive to have work done at a dealership, but actually their hourly rate was a bit less than the local RV repair shop! After that, no more fuel pump problems!

Of course, each time the pump had needed replacing, it was free; however, we had to pay the labor in each case and that sure did add up! Not to mention spending half of a trip parked at a repair shop!
