Gimme 40 acres.....

Soos: It isn't that hard to turn a TT around; just sometimes takes alot of time and work manuvering it. I think you have a 19 footer, right? Won't get in too many tight spots with that. Don't sweat it, just get out and go.
When I was trucking with my SIL she sometimes took us on a non-scheduled sight seeing tour  and had to turn the rig around with a veryyyy long trailer attached. Amazing how it can be done.

recorded by The Willis Brothers
Words and music by Earl Green and John William Greene

[G] He was headin' into Boston in a [C] big, long Diesel truck
It was [D7] his first trip to Boston, he was [G] having lots of luck
He was going the wrong direction down a one-[C] way street in town
And [D7] this is what he said when the police chased him [G] down.

CHORUS
[G] Give me forty acres and I'll [C] turn this rig around
It's the [D7] easiest way that I've [G] found ... [D7]
Some [G] guys can turn it on a dime or [C] turn it right downtown
But [D7] I need forty acres to turn this rig a-[G] round.

When he finally found where to unload, he had a dreadful shock
His trailer pointed toward the road and his cab right to the dock
And as he looked around him through the tears he made this sound
Oh, give me forty acres and I'll turn this rig around.

CHORUS

When he finally got unloaded, he was glad to leave the town
He was very, very happy, headin' back to Alabam'
When up ahead he saw a sign, said; "You are Northward bound."
He said; "Give me forty acres and I'll turn this rig a- round."

He was driving down the right lane, when ahead he saw a sign
Now he's gotta make a left turn, but he cannot get in line
And the tears were streaming down his cheeks and they all heard him yell
"Give me forty sticks of dynamite and I'll blow this thing to ... !"

SIGH.....I suppose, if you say so!

BUT, I won't be doing any dead end streets for a very long time if I can avoid them! And I will always be terrified to get stuck in a place I can't turn around in!!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

The GPS took us down a dead end road one day in rural Indiana We were in the 40' Alfa pulling our car. We took the "40 acres" and turned around in some ones plowed corn field. Farmer probably wondered if he had been visited by aliens.

My little rig's never been a problem turning around - but ask Sparkle if I've gotten her into places I shouldn't have???

My favorite turnaround was with my pontoon boat on the Mississippi backwaters. I knew pretty much where I could and couldn't go - but would occasionally be grounded on a sand bar (there were also areas of underground trees - I avoided those areas). More than once I had to climb out of the boat and turn her around or pull her over a sandbar. I carefully avoided having to do that in spring and fall when the water was too cold. One day, while turning the pontoon around on a sandbar I looked over and a red fox was on an island peering out at me. You think he was telling other foxes I couldn't see they should come see this lady who is stuck in the water?
