I watched the preview of this a few nights ago. They showed clips from all the different episodes. Perhaps it was just me, but I didn't think they presented the parks in an exciting way. Kinda slow drawn out narratives. ;)

I enjoyed the preview,... thought it was presented in more of a natural history angle rather than touristy one.

From the pbs.org website:

Coming to PBS September 27, 2009

Filmed over the course of more than six years at some of nature's most spectacular locales — from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska — THE NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA'S BEST IDEA is nonetheless a story of people: people from every conceivable background — rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy. It is a story full of struggle and conflict, high ideals and crass opportunism, stirring adventure and enduring inspiration - set against the most breathtaking backdrops imaginable.

THE NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA'S BEST IDEA is a six-episode series directed by Ken Burns and written and co-produced by Dayton Duncan.

Every time I enter a National Park I think...this is my park!......Part of this belongs to me in as much as land can belong to anyone..... I was hoping to watch the program....... just like I enjoy the pictures and entries of others trips to these places......

You have to remember that the National Parks aren't Disney. They are places to slow down and "Smell the Nature" as my 8 year old once said. When people ask me what there is to do at the North Rim I have to tell them..nothing. Walk, take photographs, enjoy! People have complained that the Rim isn't fenced in! So many people have forgotten that they are responsible for their own safety.
We are so lucky to have these big chunks of land available to us. They are world famous and bring in many tourists. When I tell people that we are 5 miles from the park entrance, and then there are 13 miles of Park to go before you reach the Canyon...13 miles! and heaven only knows how many miles on either side! And then there is the wildlife, animals who have rarely, if ever, seen a human. It was the best idea we ever had!
