Lenora, that was some bad info you were given. I just got my air card in July. You do not have to sign a 2 yr. contract. I had to purchase the a/c and then operate month to month. I can stop it at any time, but will pay a $35 activation fee again to start it up in the spring. For me it works out to be cheaper than a contract.

I thought about which way would work best....but finally went with the two year contract.....I don't eat out in fancy restaurant or spend $$$ on many things so I just jumped in with this.....Maybe it was my wishful thinking that I will travel more often and won't have to stop at a RV Resort in order to catch up on computer stuff but can do so in the COE, etc places... The second reason/excuse is ....for example, I am sitting in the skilled nursing care facility waiting for the Care Conference to start and I can use my time to catch up on "stuff"...... I like that :D

Cedar, I was also told that it could only be shut off for 3 mon. a year.
I think the info we get from those kiosks are not from very informative employees.
When I have an AT&T question on my iPhone, my son always tells me to make sure I go to the AT&T Store, not to one of their booths at the mall.

I have the Verizon aircard, but no phone. I use Tracfone/ prepaid for cell service. I opted for the 2 year contract because I use the aircard at home too and no other internet service. They replace the aircard free every 2 years when I renew with an updated version.

Lenora, I think your son is correct. I've always found that the "real store" was the best place to go too. I've had my Verizon aircard for a few months now. I, too, have an iPhone. I sort of wish I had checked into what type of AT&T discount I might have gotten if I had gone with an AT&T aircard. You might want to check into that since you have an iPhone.

If you BUY the air card you can get it on a month to month basis. No 2 year contract. But the air card costs around $200. With the 2 year contract you don't have to Buy the air card. I have shut mine done two times for a total of 180 days - but can only shut it off for 90 days at a time. Then I have to remember to call them before the end date and shut it off again for another $15. Now I want to disconnect it. Maybe one of my kids can take the air card and activate it in their name on their account - new phone number. Don't know if that can be done. But don't know why not.

Carol/Margie, my iPhone is on my son's account. He put me on his family plan as my Christmas present last Christmas, so any changes I make probably changes his contract, so I'll have wait until he returns from his TDY to discuss it with him. Or I guess I could go to one of their stores, and get the info first, and see if it's something I'd want to talk to him about.

We've had our card for 3 years...it's our only internet connection....also have the external antenna, which is presently on the roof of the 5er to get signal....when we got the new laptop 2 years ago, we had to get a new card for it....since I sold Verizon at Radio Shack years ago, I knew we needed to go to what they call a "Corporate Store"...not the folks at the little stands in the mall....so my advice would be to go to the corporate store for info and purchase.....but other than that....we love our air card & antenna...we also have a router....and we share with friends... ;) Don't know about the suspending service....ours is on all the time...except when the leaves give us fits here in the woods....
