The green looks rather blue, but these are red, green and white cones. I bought some fat, tall candles at a Thrifty for 19c each, melted them in an empty dog food can sitting in boiling water, poured the wax on and VOILA! It is now cold enough at the Lodge for us to start lighting the big fire on a daily basis. So I'll donate them for that.
When i wanted to make some of these last year, i also had trouble finding paper/cardboard egg cartons so I went to a bulk food store and bought some little paper nut/condiment cups. They were $7 or $8 but I got 1000 of them. Now all of our stores have switched to cardboard egg cartons so I will probably have those nut cups for my kids to use at my funeral dinner. lol I also had problems with the wax so i bought boxes of crayons, unwrapped them and melted them. I didn't want to ruin any of my cookware so bought a package of those aluminum disposable pie plates and put that over boiling water to melt the crayons, then threw it away. I put the finished product in one of those plastic shoeboxes with a bungee around it to kep lid on and store it in the outdoor compartment of the rig along with one of those long handled candle lighters and I'm good to go. I love Sparkles pretty pine cones tho and also the idea of using the cheap candles. I buy votive candles at the dollar store all the time and sometimes the wicks fall out and I was pitching them but now will save them for my next batch of firestarters and they will smell good too since I always buy different scents.
