My first tech question...of many, just wait!

Postby AlmostThere » Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:24 am

Oh, I have my first tech question..... There is an outlet I can use at the storage place to plug in to, but it's only for keeping the battery charged, not enough wattage/amps (?) to run anything else on the rig. My question is my RV has the 3 prong 30 amp plug so when I purchase the thingee to change the plug from the big 30 amp to the smaller plug, does it have to be something that actually changes the current, or just something that makes the connection work? Hope this made since to somebody. I just remember everyone talking about using special plugs at campgrounds.

Good morning!

All you need is the adapter to make YOUR plug fit into THEIR hole. No change of current is necessary.
Isn't it all fun??? Don't forget a 30A extension cord on your list of must haves.

Have you decided where your first trip will be?

Thanks, Mitch! :D

I have yet to just sit in it by myself, let alone plan a trip! ;)

I did bring home the file with ALL the booklets that came with the rig. Most of it was way over my head with diagrams of the insides of the furnace, fridge, water heater etc. I just want pictures of who to operate/maintain them properly. If they fall apart I won't be the one doing the work!! The only applliances that came with instructions was the TV and Microwave.

I did notice something I missed before. The shades on either side of the dining/sofa area are different. One side has those clanging blinds and the other has the pull down accordian type. Not sure what I like more as I do like that with the blinds I can open them in a way to let in light but still retain my privacy, whereas the pull down ones are either up, no privacy, or down, not letting in much light nor can I just peak out. Perhaps that's why I have two different ones??

I prefer the mini-blinds. (yep, nosey me likes to see what's going on  ) But I can also tip the slats either way for privacy and ventilation. Those pesky day/night shades are solid and when the windows are open don't breathe to my satisfaction. Although the day/night style may be a bit warmer in cool weather. More insulating?

Lenora, I bought used from a dealer. They had a tech to explain how to operate the rv. After 4 hours and said "stop" I haven't retained anything you have said for the last two hours. A neighbor showed me a few things at a time. My first trip to a cg, I told the desk it was my first time hooking up and the owner helped walk me through. I don't know what kind of brain I have but I work better with pictures :D Of course my motto is "KISS" keep it simple stupid. You are doing great, one question at a time.

Cedar, do you have metal or vinyl mini blinds? I tried banging them at Lowes, the vinyl made less noise but was told they don't hold up as well. Decisions, Decisions.

On the adapter from 30amp - you CAN'T run everything but you CAN turn your frig on to let it get cold before a trip. Basically, you can run one thing at a time. I wouldn't run my AC for more than a few minutes - they draw a lot of power and you don't want to have a brown out and ruin your ac. I think all of us have done our first campout in our driveways or even better. go to a nearby CG for practice hooking everything up. HAVE FUN!!!

Shirl, I have metal. I'm wondering why they would they make noise if they are either all the way up, or if down, fastened into the little holders?

Cedar, I have one blind over the sink. I guess the pleated one didn't hold up to the water spashing. It is in the brackets at the bottom but maybe I don't have it pulled tight enough because it does rattle when on the road. hummm add to list, tighten blind. :)

I don't think you can get them tight enough, Cedar. Just one of those things.
I tell you I wasn't prepared for all the jingle, jangling noises in my MH today. We've always had 5th wheels so you don't hear what all goes on back there. I kept thinking things were falling down or coming apart! Guess I'll learn to discipher what is a real problem noise and what's normal eventually.

Hi - it's a beauty - you'll have a lot of fun with it. So glad to hear you got it.
about the mini blinds - in the Alfa there are a couple of blinds that rattle when they are hooked down so those I always pull up tight and secure the cord cause it too with bang away. Then they are quiet. We line all our cupboards etc. with indoor/outdoor carpet with the foam backing - about 60cents sq foot at home improvement store -keeps things quiet. use the rubbermaid dividers or make your own between plates, pots, pans etc. also around cups and glasses - stops clanging. have someone ride with you for a couple of miles and listen for what's rattling/clanging- from the driver's seat you really can't tell. Most can be stopped with slight adjustments. My husband HATES noises so our rigs are very very quiet.
get the expandable rods - camping world has them - to put in your refrig - keeps you from having unpleasant surprises when you open the door. Ever see "The Long, Long Trailer"?.. A lot will be trial and error - but you'll learn - we all did.
Happy Trails!!!!

You know, Carol, we always pulled our 5th wheel with the binds pulled up. I'll give that a try next trip and see if that helps eliminate some of the jingle jangle.
