Let's start our day with a good morning here.

TUESDAY, 9/01/09--MY LAST FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!

Sunshine is waking up to her first day of her retirement! How I envy you!! May you enjoy every second of it.

It's 35 degrees out there this morning, and I forgot to bring my flowers in last night. I sure hope they made it.

I can't believe it's a school morning again already. Being pretty much useless all of July this summer sure made for a very abbreviated time off!

My daughter called last night and I told her about the chimney-cleaning fiasco. She said she would try to schedule a time when she could come and help me get the brush up the chimney. THAT will be a scene to behold----her lying on her back on the hearth board with soot falling all around her! She has never been one to enjoy such physical hard labor! But we can try. In the meantime, I will spend my lunch hour today at Ace Hardware, getting the stove pipes replaced. It would be extra nice if they could also rivet it all together for me, or screw it together. I also need to ask them about the possibility of installing another triple-layered pipe out through a wall and attach it to the eaves somehow. One big problem I foresee is that my roof is metal with a steep pitch, and snow comes hurtling off that like a freight train. I can't imagine any pipe withstanding that kind of force. Anyway----we shall see, I guess.

Coffee is hot and feels good on my hands. I am trying to resist a pistachio muffin calling to me from the kitchen! I am sure there are other goodies leftover in Barbzee's cupboards, too.

I have one mouse to release this morning way down my road on the way to school. They will finally lay down the asphalt on my road this week, just in time for me to have to detour around it for a few days! But it should be nice when it gets finished.

Lucky Cedar will be leaving for her favorite campground again today, as her school has sense enough to maintain tradition and doesn't start until after labor Day. Happy camping!! I will be thinking of you, and all others out there in campland, while I am sitting inside, trying to avoid Flu germs, listening to endless assinine droning speeches of whomever the school board has decided to get for us on this Superintendent's Day. At least I will learn what I will be doing this year as my job has changed. I think I am looking forward to the change, but I shall soon see.

Pull up a chair and let us know what's up in your world----I will read this again when I get home this afternoon. Happy Tuesday!

Good Morning to all - I cannot believe it is Sept. already - seems like we just got home from Mexico and now we are already planning this winters trip back.
It is cold here this a.m. too - got down in low 40s last night. No tank top and shorts today. In fact night before last Bill turned the furnace on....I think that was a little much but he was cold.
Jennie has 1/2 of her satellite installed - he'll be back Thursday to finish - sounds familiar. Today she goes to visit the RV Doc to have solar panels installed. I hope Alfie doesn't see us there with Jennie and get jealous. We think we've found a place to store Alfie this winter where the mice won't find her. Sure hope so.
Worked on my window some yesterday so now I'm enthoused about it again. After we get back from RV place I think I'll go down and work on it some more.

Soos - enjoy your first day! I love the title of today's thread! :)
Just think - you'll never have another one...

You'll get your stove fixed, you'll be all nice and snuggly in those jammies all winter, and before you know it, it'll be Spring and your last work days will be looming before you.

ooohhh, need that coffee this a.m.... brrrrr...... It didn't get below 40-something here as when i looked just now it was 45°. Ahhh the tropical zone of the Champlain Valley! Forecast is for at least 5 straight days of sunshine and highs in 70s with two days in low 80s, with lows at night in the 50's starting tomorrow. Tonight's low looks to be 48. Perfect camping weather as there is almost no humidity.

Sorry Soos that today will be boring for you,... those kind of days usually are. Have to have the mandatory blood borne pathogens training (again!) and the usual motivational speech,... aarrrgghhhh. Right?

time for breakfast and then get the camper ready to leave. I have the slideout in, tv is down on the bed, and the lamp is also down on the bed,... the "catch-all" basket is there too,... still have to fill the on-board fresh water tank. This is a state park with no hookups so that's a must. Most every place i go I need on-board water. I absolutely detest "resort" type campgrounds so i seldom have hookups. Some here do provide electric only. State campgrounds, that is. My last trip out on Columbus Day weekend I'll find an electric campground somewhere. I'll need my heater radiator so I won't be using the gas furnace all the time. If electricity is provided why use my gas? and it is quieter too. I love my oil-filled radiator. Keeps the camper warm with an even heat and no noise.

Hope everyone is ready for a great day!

I'll be thinking of you today Soos.....I walked the last ( fill in the blank)....of the last year, also. I really took in some of those cold icy January mornings and paused in the DARK to think of the moment... be in the moment....and remind myself that I would not be doing that again in that particular way.... It was like having a mini cam in the brain..... observing myself.... The year does go and will be summer quickly ...the rest of us will be waiting just.... down the road ...for you and Molly. :)

Good morning all. We are sitting in a Corps of Engineer park on Lake Norfork outside of Mountain Home, AR, surrounded by water in the front and couch/dining side with trees on the others. We have 30 amp electric and can get water using 3 long hoses to a spout. This area was hit by a storm earlier this year and there are trees down and some sight damage. We have friends that we came to visit. Low in the 50's at night/early am and high 70's during the day, partly cloudy and maybe some rain later this week. As seniors, we only pay $8.50 per night. Drinking coffee, eating cereal w/banana and trying to get the satellite working so I can watch the US Open, then off to play tennis. Enjoy your day. carold

My flowers made it last night, and tonight I will bring them inside!

The BBP (Blood Borne Pathogens) movie this year was really entertaining, for a change! I laughed my butt off! (Good info, just the same, but with a humerous presentation! I told the guy who chose it that he made my day!)

I was awarded a 25 year pin today at the opening assembly, along with a few others! Cannot believe I have worked in that school system for that many years! Of course, I began teaching in Sept. of 1962, but just not in this school district! Good grief----how old am I anyway!!!

I love the teacher. Will, whom I will work with this year, and the other teaching assistant, Colleen, in our room. I think I am REALLY going to love this year! I will follow a few students around as they are included in regular classrooms.....and will need some extra help. The teacher-in-charge is a year younger than my daughter, Amanda! He is a fun-loving teacher, and I am really excited to change jobs for this last year! My assignments are Life Science, (we will go to our pond and collect specimens!) Studio Art, (I hope I can work on a project of my own!), Social Studies (May I learn something there!), and some other assignments as students require extra help. We will also do some activites all together in the room, such as making neat balsam wreaths for Christmas presents!, and setting up an aquarium, and more. I am really excited about this new job!

Tomorrow I will go in early, as usual, and open the computer lab and library as I did for years, as the new library person doesn't give a hoot about getting there early and doing this. I get an extra half hour of pay for doing it, and I get to greet the students first thing in the mornings....my favorite part of the day. I play music and let them access the internet.

Hope you all had as good a day as I did. Will write about what I learned about woodstove pipe stuff in general talk! (Unbelievable cost to be 'code ready'!!!!)

Molly and I are going out for a walk now before the sun goes totally down.

That's great Soosie,... congratulations on that 25 year pin! What grade are these kids in? Sounds like you will be changing classes a lot but it will be fun. Good for you!

Thank you, thank you, everybody! (Bow---scrape---and all that!) (What is the 'scrape' of that phrase, anyway???)

I had no clue I had worked for that school system that many years...was a complete surprise.

And yes-----no 30-year pin for me!!

You knew I just had to, didn't you? :)

bow and scrape idiom
Behave obsequiously or too deferentially, as in In this fashionable store, the salespersons virtually bow and scrape before customers. This term alludes to the old-fashioned custom of bowing so deeply that one's foot draws back and scrapes the ground. A cliché for a century or more, it may be dying out. [Mid-1600s]

And a good morning to everyone.
